  • Sunday is the start of week 3 (Another Odd Week :-)).
  • The next @ Iowa Law message will go on Monday Tuesday due to the long weekend.
  • This weekend the Law Library hours are:
  • This week in Iowa Now was a brief interview with our university shared governance leaders, including Faculty Senate President and Professor Joe Yockey and GPSG President Mackensie Graham (3L). The College of Law is a small college here at Iowa, so Professor Yockey and Mackensie are helping us shine in the leadership category. Thanks to Professor Yockey and Mackensie for filling such important and visible leadership roles across the University.
  • Join the Rural Interest Group! - Interested in practicing rurally after graduation? The Rural Interest Group has been formed to help students do just that. If you are considering rural law, want to find out more about rural practice, or are interested in how the lack of attorneys in rural areas is impacting access to justice, please consider joining the Rural Interest Group.
  • Law Student Models Needed! On September 10, Iowa Law will have a new web site. Even with a new look and easier to use platform, we’re planning for improvements. The week of September 16th, we will have campus photographers at the building. They'll be using both conventional and drone photography. They have some needs for law students to be in the photos. If you have time and interest on September 16th, please e-mail laura-kivlighan@uiowa.edu with your availability. They are specifically looking for students who have blocks of time available from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.(they'll need students from 10-10:45 a.m., 10:45 - 11:30 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

Upcoming Events

  • September 8th: Legal Theory Reading Group - "We used to think that if we improved policing we could escape its violence; [t]he only way to stop the violence of policing is to make the cops obsolete." - Rachel Herzing. On May 25, 2020, Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for almost eight minutes. Protests against police brutality erupted immediately, and continue to this day. One frequent demand of protestors: Abolish the Police. An increasing number of Americans seem to be on board. What would it mean to abolish the police? And what would replace them? At the next Legal Theory Reading Group (“LTRG,” pronounced “liturgy”), we’ll discuss the history of policing in the United States and the feasibility of abolishing the police. Newcomers always welcome! At each LTRG meeting, we discuss a recent work tackling contemporary issues in legal theory. Professors Diamantis (law), Davidovic (philosophy), and Hasan (philosophy) will entertain you with provocative discussion prompts. Meetings are low key and friendly. The whole point is to have fun! The only expectation is that you come prepared to discuss.
