Visit the Loop for more information on the course. | | | | Lee-Son named Associate Chief Quality Officer for Children's and Women's Services Kathy Lee-Son, MD, MHSc, FRCPC, clinical associate professor of pediatric nephrology, has been named Associate Chief Quality Officer for Children's and Women's Services.
Dr. Lee-Son has served as the Interim Associate Chief Quality Officer for Children's and Women's Services since November 2020. Within that time, she has collaborated with multi-disciplinary teams across obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics to develop and sustain quality improvement efforts, such as supporting the onboarding of Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) Culture Wave and developing the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics' morbidity and mortality multi-disciplinary rounds.

Learn more and schedule an appointment to meet with a Health Coach or UI EAP to complete a referral for the program. | | | | UI Team Investigates the Evolution of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria A University of Iowa team lead by Anthony Fischer, MD, PhD, reported how bacteria evolve resistance to the critical antibiotic linezolid. Dr. Fischer's team investigated Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from a cohort of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) during a 10-year study period.
The study's first author, Nicholas Pitcher, is now a third-year medical student at the Carver College of Medicine. The team also collaborated with experts from the State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL) in Coralville, as well as members of Dr. Paul Planet's laboratory from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
The article will be published in the upcoming issue of Microbiology Spectrum. In the meantime, visit Pub Med to read more about the study. | | | Institute for Clinical and Translational Science Fall Seminar: Career Development and Funding The seminar from the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science is designed for fellows and new faculty to boost basic skills in career development and obtaining funding. Topics include:
- University structure and tenure
- Laboratory leadership in science
- Time management
- Getting funded
- Mentorship
- Education.
The seminar will be hosted over Zoom. Each session is from 4:00-5:20 p.m. every other Tuesday for a total of six sessions. The first session is Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
