2024–2025 staff performance reviews

The 2024–2025 staff performance review process has begun. Performance reviews for the department of pediatrics must be completed no later than March 7, 2025. Self-evaluations are required for all staff and are due on Jan. 10. Training and assistance will be available to support you through this annual process. 

Peds HR is offering a session on Jan. 13, 2025, via Zoom to provide an overview of the performance review process, including best practices. Attendance is optional but encouraged. Add it to your calendar today! Contact your Peds HR representative if you have questions or need assistance.

David Schwebel named UI's next vice president for research

David C. Schwebel has been named University of Iowa's next vice president for research, and will begin on July 1, 2025. David earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Yale University and his Master of Arts and PhD in clinical psychology from Iowa. Pediatric Heart Transplant program receives award

The Pediatric Heart Transplant program at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital received the Vanguard Award from the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society (PHTS). This award recognizes individual centers for their outstanding contribution to the PHTS Registry. Congratulations to the Pediatric Heart Transplant team!

APP lunch and learn

The Iowa Chapter of National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) is sponsoring a virtual lunch and learn on Nov. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. Pam Hoogerwerf, program manager of the injury prevention and community outreach division at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital, is presenting on "Protecting Our Children from Injury–Is Bubble Wrap the Answer?" Expanding NICU care for our tiniest patients

To accommodate the state's growing need for maternal care and specialized newborn care, UI Health Care is working to relocate and expand its NICU to Level 7 and Level 8 of Stead Family Children's Hospital. The Level 7 expansion was approved by the Iowa Board of Regents in February and the Level 8 expansion was just approved this month. Big Ten blood drive update

The University of Iowa is currently in sixth place in the Big Ten blood drive competition! The winning school will receive $1 million to advance student or community health. Watch as Kid Captain, Hayden Ulrich, shares her story and why blood donations are so important
