Intent: To announce new and refreshed supervisor trainings.
HR colleagues,
On behalf of Organizational Effectiveness (OE), we are eager to share that as part of its year one strategic accomplishments, the Well-Being and Mental Health Campus Collaborative has developed a stand-alone training for new and current supervisors: Well-Being and Mental Health.
We encourage all supervisors, new and current, to take advantage of this important training; found in Employee Self-Service > My Career > My Training (course #WWBMH1).
Additionally, after reviewing trainings, identifying areas of opportunity, and collaborating with the Well-Being and Mental Health Campus Collaborative, OE has refreshed its content and incorporated well-being and mental health support, and change management, into its Supervisor Training@Iowa (mandatory for all administrative supervisors).
The refreshed ICON courses can also be found in Employee Self-Service. The four modules within the training have been renamed:
- Foundations
- Culture Builder
- Performance Manager
- Team Builder
Anyone who previously completed the mandatory Supervisor Training@Iowa is still compliant. Prior to July 1, we communicated with still-enrolled individuals to let them know of the refresh.
Promoting leadership excellence is part of University HR's strategic plan, which supports the Holistic Well-Being and Success priority in the UI Strategic Plan 2022-2027.
Supervisor support, or lack thereof, is often cited as a reason why employees leave their jobs. According to the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM.org), studies have suggested that fair treatment by a supervisor is the most important determinant of employee retention. As we navigate a tight labor market and embrace the university's priority of promoting holistic well-being and success for students, faculty, and staff, we encourage participation in leadership development.
