Intent: Inform all University of Iowa faculty and staff of the University Programs with Minors policy and how to register their program, if applicable.

Date: May 13, 2025

The University of Iowa's University Programs with Minors policy requires all university programs that include participants under the age of 18 to register with the university. Registration should occur annually and with each change in director.

All university programs with minors, regardless of location, are governed by the University Programs with Minors policy and must register.

University programs with minors are defined as "all programs and activities offered by student organizations or various academic, athletic, or administrative units of the university for participants under the age of 18, including, but not limited to, the hosting of an individual minor by an individual faculty or staff member."

Exceptions include:

• Minors who are visitors in the workplace
  
  
• Minors working for the university as employees
  
  
• Minors who are either admitted for enrollment or enrolled at the university (this exclusion does not apply to minors enrolled in pre-college courses)
  
  
• Minors attending events on campus or events sponsored by the university that are open to the general public
  
  
• Minors on school/organization trips accompanied throughout the trip by an adult chaperone for their school/organization
  
  
• Minors attending official admission events hosted by the admissions office, such as Hawkeye Visit Days
  
  
• Minors participating in pre-enrollment visitation or recruiting activities governed by the NCAA or U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regulations
  
  
• Minors receiving medical care or treatment at University of Iowa Health Care
  
  
• Minors who are human subjects in research studies as research subjects which are approved by the university's Institutional Review Board (IRB)
