Peds Express: News from and for the University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics

One Day for Iowa Update

Thank you to every person who participated in One Day for Iowa on March 30, whether by donating directly to one of our funds, participating in social media challenges, or helping us spread the word. We had incredible results this year.

Last year was the department's first year participating in this one-day fundraiser, and we raised approximately $3,000 towards our highlighted funds. Our goal this year was merely to top that number, until our match opportunity presented itself.

This year, we raised a total of $32,443 with 32 donors giving to our featured areas!

Charlie and Pat Becker gave us the opportunity to match up to $25k for pediatric Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and multiple generous donors stepped up to help fulfill that match.

We also raised $2,303 for our general, unrestricted funds, allowing us room to grow and support our greatest areas of need - and we unlocked an additional $500 through social media support that will be applied to our general fund.

We will be sending a small thank you gift to those who supported us on social media using our hashtag and tagging us during this online giving day. Thank you to Heidi Artley-Hanson, Dr. Alex Bassuk, Dr. Aaron Boes, Peggy Duwa, and Scott Fedler from our department for your online engagement!

APP Corner

Our providers in the PSC are getting positive reviews! Here are some of the most recent patient comments regarding their care:

Regarding Dr. Diana Bayer and her Allergy/Immunology care team: "When we were seen by the provider every aspect was exceptional. The staff, students and providers [were] very professional, knowledgeable and caring."

Julie Osterhaus, ARNP, CPNP, received this review: "Julie was so thorough and helped my son, with autism, understand what the visit was about & goals that he should work on. I would highly recommend her. She is the reason why we travel to Iowa City. Also, the decor in the hospital is so nice and my son thought the medical museum on the 8th floor was the neatest thing ever!"

Daniel Crawford, ARNP, in pediatric neurology, "and his student were extremely kind, caring and thorough. Dan did an amazing job of explaining things in a way that eased my anxieties while we await[ed] further testing. He made sure to let us know how to contact him and not to hesitate with questions. My son was a new patient but it never felt like it. I would absolutely recommend him."
