The hospital recently became the first in the state to use CertaScan technology for infant footprints. CertaScan enables hospitals to scan newborn footprints digitally, which is an upgrade from the ink and paper method most hospitals have long-used.
The digital footprints are connected to the mother's fingerprint in a database. This links mother and baby together showing that they are part of the same family. It's an added layer of security for babies born at UIHC. | | When twins Noelle and Blaire McDaniel's clubfoot treatment proved a bit tricky, their parents never lost faith in UI Stead Family Children's Hospital team, or the revolutionary treatment approach developed at Iowa. The Ponseti Method was developed at UI Hospitals & Clinics by Ignacio Ponseti, MD. Today, Dr. Ponseti's successor is Jose Morcuende, MD, who is the leading practitioner and teacher of the Ponseti Method.
The McDaniels are looking forward to their twins learning to walk and being able to keep up with their big sister, Iris, who is 2. "We are so thankful for what Dr. Morcuende and his team did for our girls. They will always hold a special place in our hearts." | | | Patient Comments from the Pediatric Specialty Clinic "I am very grateful to have Dan for a practitioner for August - I feel he truly cares for August and I have never felt rushed in any way at an appointment. He does an amazing job at explaining things in a way I can understand and in the event I have a question, I never feel embarrassed or stupid for asking. I feel very confident in the care he provides and am thankful we were we referred to him." -patient of Daniel Crawford, DNP, ARNP, CPNP-PC, CNE.
"Everyone is always so helpful and kind at UIHC!" -patient of Sreenath Thati Ganganna, MD, MBBS in the Child Neurology clinic. | | When checking her patients medical administration record (MAR), Lauren Dengler, RN, BSN, realized that the "weight-based" option was selected on the medication order set, rather than the non-weight-based option the team had discussed. This order set would have resulted in a medication max dose of four milligrams, 10 times the intended amount.
"We all have a role to teach and to learn, to be vigilant, and to not be complacent," Lauren says. "I think it's so apparent that in the PICU and in any unit in the hospital, when we work together and have each other's backs, we achieve our goals: getting kids home, getting people home, making people better." | | | The Fall 2022 cohort of our Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) begins on Thursday, July 28, and will be offered virtually via Zoom from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. The first step to enroll in DPP is to attend an "Info Session" where you will learn about the program and the eligibility requirements to participate.
