Keith Mays

Alumnus Keith Mays Appointed Dean of University of Minnesota School of Dentistry

Keith Mays was announced as the new dean for the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr. Mays earned a Master's degree and certificate in prosthodontics from the University of Iowa, and he previously served as the interim dean for the school for a little more than a year before his appointment. Five of the deans currently serving at Big 10 dental schools are alumni of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.

Leo Marchini

Dr. Leonardo Marchini Receives Grant to Support Final Development of Ageism Evaluation Tool

The Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation awarded Dr. Leonardo Marchini a grant to support the final step in the development of a tool to measure the degree of ageism among dental students. The tool will be used to develop and evaluate specific strategies for addressing ageism among dental students with the goal of improving the oral health of older adults.

Dr. Carlos Garaicoa-Pazmino

Dr. Carlos Garaicoa-Pazmino Joins Department of Periodontics

Dr. Garaicoa-Pazmino earned his DDS degree from the Universidad Catolica Santiago de Guayaquil, Ecuador (2011) and a certificate and MS degree from the University of Michigan (2017). He served as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Michigan (2017-2019) and Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry (2019-2021). He is also affiliated with the Universidad de Especialidades Espiritu Santo as a research scholar. A few of Dr. Garaicoa’s accomplishments include receiving a prestigious award and scholarship from the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation to attend the ADEA/AAL Institute for Teaching and Learning; being selected as one of the finalists for the Richard J. Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery by the American Academy of Periodontology, and receiving the Horace H. Rackham International Student Fellowship from the University of Michigan. His dedication and commitment to research and innovation are exemplified by the numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles he has published in different journals in the fields of periodontology and implant dentistry.
