| Upcoming Transition in Department Leadership | Stead Family Department of Pediatrics,
As you are aware, tomorrow, August 31, will be my last day in the role of Interim Chair of the Department, and Interim Physician-in-Chief of the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
It has been an honor to serve in this role not once, but twice over the course of my career. I couldn’t have foreseen the many changes and challenges we have faced over this interim period, namely, navigating this Department through a global pandemic. Faculty, trainees, staff and medical students alike have banded together in clinical care and scientific pursuits. In the past two years we have achieved much success, all while many of us transitioned to work from home and back again or had our roles transformed in major ways. We have maintained access for our patients and families in creative ways and risen to the demands of the moment. We have also recruited 30 new faculty members; appointed the Vice Chair of Inpatient Acute Care and the Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; secured multiple grants and published prolifically, while continuing to promote collaboration and resiliency within our Department, our enterprise, and our community.
It is now time to look forward with enthusiasm as leadership of the Department transitions to our friend and colleague, and new Chair of our Department, Dr. Alexander G. Bassuk. Congratulations, Dr. Bassuk! The Department is in good hands.
Sincerely,

Eva Tsalikian, MD Professor and Interim Chair, and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs Stead Family Department of Pediatrics University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine Interim Physician-in-Chief, University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital

Please note the updated guidelines regarding meetings: "Consider using virtual meeting options like Zoom when meeting in person is not necessary. If you do meet in person, masks are required in clinical and non-clinical rooms in patient care facilities, and masks are encouraged in all other UI Health Care locations. Food should not be consumed during meetings."
For these and other safety updates, visit The Loop. | | | Staff Spotlight: Sydney Jellison Sydney joined the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics in June 2021 as part of the NICU clinical research team in the Division of Neonatology. Previously, she worked in Psychiatry for four years, also doing research.
Sydney’s hobbies include quilting, cross-stitching, reading and watching movies. “My favorite book is American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and my favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice.” When asked which version of movie she prefers, Sydney responded, “The 2005 version. That’s the only version I’ve watched. I just have a fun time whenever I watch it, so I always go back to that version.”
