Deans and VPs,
On Nov. 10, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced two additional days of paid time off for state employees. The University of Iowa/UI Health Care will use the following implementation plan:
- Faculty and staff on permanent appointments:
Twelve-month Faculty, P&S, SEIU, and merit staff will receive two additional paid leave days added to their banked vacation balance, one day around Nov. 30 and one day around Dec. 30.
- The additional time off may be used as a regular vacation day. This approach allows greater flexibility for the employee and the department.
- The additional 16 hours will be prorated for employees with an appointment of less than 40 hours per week.
Please note this is a special addition of vacation hours and does not change current university practice regarding banking of vacation. Employees who are at their vacation maximum will also receive the hours.
- Academic faculty and staff on permanent nine-month appointments:
Will receive Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, and Tuesday, May 16, 2023, as additional paid days off based upon active employment status on Nov. 23, 2022.
To realize the additional paid day off, faculty/staff will need to be in active employment status with the University of Iowa/UI Health Care on the actual day.
Please forward to key leaders in your unit. Communication will be distributed to employees on Thursday.
Thank you,
Cheryl H. Reardon
