Confusion to Clarity: Implementing Elements of Success in Large Classes

Thanks to the introduction of Elements of Success into a business course, students better understand their performance and emails to the instructor after final grades were posted were nearly eliminated. Elements of Success is an easy-to-understand, visual format that helps students understand their current course performance and ways they can improve or maintain their grade.

Pilot a New ICON Template to Increase Course Accessibility

To help meet campus-wide accessibility goals and with input from campus partners, OTLT created an ICON course template that can help guide the development of an accessible and uniform site. This template is optional and not meant to replace existing templates that many units across campus already use for their programs.

Ally Now in All ICON Courses

Anthology Ally enhances accessibility by offering real-time feedback on digital course content in ICON. Instructors can use Ally Indicators—red, orange, light green, and dark green gauges—and the Course Report for detailed advice to improve their courses' accessibility for all students. Have questions? Extended Quiz Time Accommodations Now Automatic in ICON

Instructors who use ICON Classic Quizzes no longer need to manually adjust the time allowed on quizzes for students who elect to use Student Disability Services extended time accommodations.

UICapture: Sharing and Permissions

If instructors use UICapture or Zoom to have students record assignments, remind students to select Share with Specific People to ensure their content is only shared with certain people. To learn more, attend an upcoming session about sharing and permissions at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 10.

Pressbooks Book Fair

Join a celebration of Pressbooks at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. Pressbooks allows you to create open educational resources, including eBooks, handbooks, student work collections, portfolios, and anthologies. This event will showcase a range of projects from UI faculty and staff and include an interactive panel.

Innovating Education: Sal Khan and Khanmigo

Sal Khan, founder and CEO of Khan Academy, will visit the University of Iowa for a guest lecture on Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the IMU. This event is free to the public. Khan will introduce Khanmigo, an AI-powered teaching assistant designed to streamline the instructional process. Learn more about our Khanmigo pilot.

Join us at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, to learn some basics to help make your ICON course site accessible to all your students. We'll talk about how to make sure your PDFs are navigable and can be read by screen reading programs, as well as other document types.
