Fall Attendance Class List Reminder

Submit Your Fall 2021 Attendance Class List

*This email is meant only as a reminder; please disregard this message if you have already submitted your attendance list.

 

Fall 2021 Attendance Class Lists are now available in MAUI. Instructors must submit attendance for each student appearing on the class list. Step-by-step instructions for student non-attendance processing and automatic section change information are available on the MAUI Help Site.

Please note the following:

  • Submit your fall 2021 attendance class list no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 23.
  • Attendance class list submission is a requirement of federal financial aid regulations. To establish federal financial aid eligibility, students must participate in at least one academic engagement (as defined here) per class between the class start date and the attendance deadline.
  • The University of Iowa must comply with the regulation to keep students financial aid eligible.
  • For fall 2021 courses underway, 100% completion of the attendance submission by instructors is a University of Iowa requirement.
  • The University of Iowa is allowed to require attendance once and still be considered an institution that does not take attendance.
  • If your course begins after September 23 or if final grades are open for final grade entry (or have already been submitted), your attendance list does not need to be submitted. We would assume in those instances, as well as in off-cycle courses, instructors are notifying students regarding attendance issues.

 

The Office of Student Financial Aid does not want to cancel aid for students who are participating in academic activity but whose instructors did not verify this activity. If a student participates in only one activity they should be reported as attending even if this doesn't meet the course expectations. If instructors initially report a student as not attending and then the student participates in an academic activity, the instructor can email osfa-attendance@uiowa.edu to certify the attendance for the student for financial aid purposes.

 

In addition to attendance reporting, please note that with the fall 2021 grade submission, UI faculty and instructors are required to provide a last date of attendance for any student receiving a failing grade (AUU, F, N, U). It is critical to be accurate when listing the last date of attendance as this will impact the dollar amount of financial aid the student will be required to pay back.
