Meet the Career Coaches

Our team of friendly and knowledgeable Career Coaches are eager to meet with you as you explore your career interests and look for experiences to build your resume. Whether you’re wondering what career options exist for your major, searching for an internship, or wanting to improve your interview skills–we are here to help! You can schedule an appointment (either in-person or virtually) on MyUI.

Meet the Career Peer Advisors

For quick career assistance, meet with our awesome team of Peer Advisors during our drop-in hours of 10 a.m.–3 p.m., Monday–Thursday. The peers also offer virtual appointments throughout the week, including Friday. Our Peer Advisors can help you with starting your resume, reviewing a resume draft, preparing for a career fair, and navigating Handshake and our website.

What are Career Communities?

We offer 10 Career Communities that allow you to explore occupations, learn about student organizations and volunteer opportunities, and find job and internship listings connected to your career interests. If you are an open major, all of our career communities allow for exploration.

Career Treks

Our Career Treks are a great opportunity to explore your career interests by traveling with the Career Center to visit organizations throughout Iowa and the Midwest! You’ll learn more about company operations and initiatives, internships and full-time positions available, and network with professionals in your field. Check out our amazing line-up for this fall! Sign-up will be open soon for our first trek: Science & Nature, September 12-13 in Minneapolis, MN.

My Career Path

New this year to the Career Center is My Career Path: an easy and non-intimidating way to access career guidance 24/7! Through My Career Path, students receive personalized suggestions for career to-do’s and have their progress tracked toward career milestones. Get started today!

Handshake

Handshake is the University of Iowa's job and internship system available to all Hawkeyes. Utilizing Handshake is ESSENTIAL to provide the best access to thousands of career-related opportunities, internships, and part-time and full-time jobs during your time here at Iowa. Be sure to activate your account (it’s free!), upload your resume, and make your profile public as soon as you can. Thousands of employers use Handshake each day to post positions and recruit students like you!

If you’re interning this fall, make sure to register your internship with the Career Center to receive transcript notation or elective course credit.
