Resume Collect  

Resume collects follow a similar timeline with Fall OCI. After employers receive their applicant packets on August 12th, they may reach out right away to candidates and interview on their timeline. Iowa Law staff does coordinate or schedule interviews for resume collect employers.

Marine Corps Judge Advocate

Marine Judge Advocates are attorneys responsible for upholding the law and core values of the Marine Corps. They are Marine Officers first and attorneys second. Law students who wish to become Marine Corps JAGs, or are interested in learning more about careers in the Marine Corps JAG, are encouraged to attend this panel conversation. United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps

Law Student Perspective on Public Interest Careers: Briefing & Discussion

Join Equal Justice Works, the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE), the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), and the NALP Foundation for a briefing on LSSSE data surrounding public interest law resources available to law students and barriers to pursuing such careers. This session will be an interactive discussion with attendees on what law schools and their partnering organizations can do to increase awareness and use of public interest resources. 

Attendees will receive a summary report in advance of this event to inform them about this session’s focus. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with questions and ideas for the panelists.

San Diego City Attorney's Office and Paid Summer 2025 Rotating Legal Internship Program

There are a number of unique features of our Internship Program.  One is that there is a direct career pathway into the Office as an attorney.  Another is that interns receive a tremendous opportunity to learn about a wide array of practice areas in one internship experience by spending 5 weeks in our Criminal Division and 5 weeks in our Civil Division. Chapman and Cutler LLP's Maynard H. Jackson Jr. Scholarship 2024

Chapman is pleased to offer the seventh annual Chapman and Cutler LLP Maynard H. Jackson Jr. Scholarship. The recipient of the award will receive a $10,000 scholarship to be used to cover law school expenses. Applications are due by September 13, 2024. Students can access the application here or see the attached file.

Equal Justice Works Design-Your-Own Fellowships

Equal Justice Works is currently accepting applications for 2025-2027 Design-Your-Own Fellowships, and we would like to encourage your organization to apply to host a Fellow. Our application deadline is September 10, 2024, for fellowships to begin in September 2025.

Equal Justice Works DYO Fellowships provide financial and other forms of support to lawyers working on innovative legal projects throughout the U.S. The two-year Fellowships offer non-profit organizations working on legal issues (“Host Organizations”) up to $63,500 annually for the Fellow’s salary. Fellows have learning, networking and professional development opportunities throughout their Fellowship. Equal Justice Works offers Fellows loan repayment assistance for qualifying student loans during the Fellowship term.

Fellowship applications are the result of close collaboration between your organization and the Fellowship candidate(s) with whom you choose to apply. Immigrant Justice Corp 2025 Fellowship

Each year IJC awards Justice Fellowships to recent law graduates from around the country – individuals with tremendous talent, promise, and a demonstrated commitment to providing legal services for low-income people and immigrants.

IJC trains Justice Fellows to become experts in immigration law and pairs them with leading non-profit legal services providers and community-based organizations. IJC matches selected Fellows with our partnering host organizations based on the applicant’s experience and interest, gaps in services within the community, location interests, and partnering host organizations’ needs. 

Justice Fellows represent immigrants in an array of immigration matters including:

  • Removal defense
  • Affirmative asylum applications
  • Relief available to juveniles and victims of crime, domestic violence, or human trafficking

Justice Fellow General Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants may be 3Ls or currently enrolled in an LLM program, graduating law school by the spring of 2025
  • Applicants must have graduated no earlier than Spring 2023
  • At the time of selection must have authorization to work in the United States for two years

Ford Foundation Fellowship in Nonprofit Law 

The Ford Foundation Fellowship in Nonprofit Law permits a Fellow each year to spend a year in residence at the Ford Foundation’s Office of Legal Services in New York, working with the General Counsel and staff of attorneys to provide legal advice on grantmaking, operations, governance, human resources, and investments.  The Fellow will also work closely with the foundation’s Grants Compliance department and engage with program and operations staff in New York and ten global offices on a variety of initiatives and special projects.

A Fellowship at the Ford Foundation will provide a recent law school graduate with exposure to an unusually wide variety of domestic and international legal issues encountered by private foundations operating globally.

National Center on Philanthropy and the Law (NCPL) Fellowship in Nonprofit Law

The NCPL Fellowship in Nonprofit Law permits one Fellow each year to spend a year in residence at a nonprofit organization. The 2025-2026 Fellow will work closely with senior staff and staff attorneys at Lawyers Alliance for New York (Lawyers Alliance) who have practice specialties that will expose the Fellow to a broad range of disciplines that address the legal needs of nonprofit organizations. Given the varied nature of the legal work performed by Lawyers Alliance and the diverse group of nonprofit organizations it represents, the NCPL Fellow will experience the widest possible exposure to representing nonprofit organizations on interesting and complex legal projects. These legal challenges will enable the NCPL Fellow to develop relevant skills to the maximum extent. Arizona Handbook

Public Defender Mentorship Program

The Iowa State Public Defender will offer a Monday Mentors program beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 or later if warranted.  It will take place every Monday thereafter at the same time and via the same zoom link provided below.  The idea is to provide a time for young public defenders, contract attorneys, and aspiring law students to ask questions whether related to a specific case, criminal defense in general, or career questions, and obtain feedback and guidance from others similarly situated and from defense attorneys with years of experience. Breakout rooms will be provided as needed to facilitate communication.  We hope you take advantage of this program. Spotlight Legal Webinars

Cohen Milstein Fellowship Information Session

Fellows participate in all aspects of our work — investigating potential cases, researching cutting-edge legal issues, conducting discovery, drafting pleadings, and collaborating with colleagues across the country. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in formal training and professional development programming, and to develop mentoring relationships. 

You can join us from a variety of professional backgrounds — directly from law school, from a judicial clerkship, or from a fellowship with another public interest organization. 

This year-long program begins in September each year and takes place in our Washington, D.C. office. We begin accepting applications in August or September for the following fall. To be considered, please be prepared to submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample and law school transcript.

Opportunities of the Week

2025 Constitutional Law Fellowship

This fully funded, one- or two-year fellowship’s primary focus is to advance constitutional rights and to defend those rights when challenged for LGBTQ+ people, including those related to marriage equality and also religion, religious and First Amendment protections and exemptions, and in efforts to change existing rights. The Constitutional Law Fellow may also engage in other matters within GLAD’s core litigation and legislative work.

The Constitutional Law Fellow will engage in the following activities to strengthen GLAD’s litigation and other advocacy to defend and expand our constitutional rights and protections, with a focus on marriage equality and also work in religion, religious and First Amendment exemptions in public institutions, and in efforts to change existing rights.

  • Legal research and writing; research and writing in history, social sciences, politics, and data sets; maintaining and updating trackers; collaborating internally and externally;
  • Supporting and engaging in litigation and legislative and policy initiatives to defend and expand existing constitutional protections within the focus areas of the fellowship, and within other areas on an as-needed basis;
  • Supporting GLAD’s other work as directed. 

Qualifications

The successful applicant will be dedicated to furthering GLAD’s mission and values. Requirements include strong research, writing, and analytical skills along with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with a diverse and intergenerational workforce. In addition, applicants should be committed to protecting and advancing civil rights and liberties, including those linked to marriage equality. Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated interest in constitutional law related to the areas of the Fellowship.

Current attorneys, recent judicial law clerks, and recently graduated or current law students are all encouraged to apply. GLAD will consider applications from current law students, clerks, or attorneys completing a different fellowship in 2025.

2024-25 Rise in Authoritarian Practices Fellow

AIUSA’s Government Relations (GR) and Advocacy team educates, advises, and lobbies U.S. government (USG) officials on human rights issues around the world. Leveraging Amnesty’s research and grassroots power, GR creates and implements advocacy strategies to push for U.S. government policies that contribute to positive human rights outcomes. We build and maintain close relationships with policymakers in Congress and across the federal government. GR identifies influential stakeholders in the USG, including potential supporters and opponents, and takes advantage of political opportunities to push forward organizational goals.

Fellows at AIUSA gain experience in human rights research and advocacy including but not limited to developing and implementing advocacy strategies and materials, contact with governmental bodies and officials, conducting legislative research, drafting memoranda and blogs, managing databases, analyzing emerging areas of relevant law and government policy, tracking the progress of legislation in the United States Congress, and learning about the international human rights framework. Fellows will also be responsible for researching and documenting issues related to U.S. foreign policy and human rights in their area of focus, as well as attending and summarizing briefings, hearings, and other NGO events.
