Judicial Clerkships - Navigating The OSCAR Website

OSCAR (Online System for Clerkship Application and Review) is the primary source for information on federal law clerk openings, clerkship application information, and law clerk employment information. While not every judge posts their openings on OSCAR, applicants should start their searches with this system.

In this program, we will show you how to utilize and apply for Federal Judicial Clerkships via the OSCAR website. We will also talk about best practices for requesting recommendation letters from professors and job supervisors.

Zelle LLP Call for Applications for 2024 Diversity in Law Scholarship and 1L Summer Clerkship

Zelle LLP is pleased to announce that the firm’s Diversity in Law Scholarship and Paid 1L Summer Clerkship will be offered again in 2024. The Scholarship is designed to encourage and assist students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse perspectives, as well as students with a proven interest in diversity-related issues, in pursuing the law as a profession.

The 1L Diversity in Law Clerkship at Zelle pays $2,500 per week and the position ranges between 5 to 8 weeks. The range is $12,500 to $20,000 depending on a mutually agreeable number of weeks that aligns with the schedule of both the law clerk and the Zelle office where the clerk will work. Public Defender Mentorship Program

The Iowa State Public Defender will offer a Monday Mentors program beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 or later if warranted.  It will take place every Monday thereafter at the same time and via the same zoom link provided below.  The idea is to provide a time for young public defenders, contract attorneys, and aspiring law students to ask questions whether related to a specific case, criminal defense in general, or career questions, and obtain feedback and guidance from others similarly situated and from defense attorneys with years of experience. Breakout rooms will be provided as needed to facilitate communication.  We hope you take advantage of this program. If you are interested in public defense, and cannot make the Monday meetings, please reach out to Kimberly DePalma at kdepalma@spd.state.ia.us.
