Enhance Your Superpowers by Clerking at the Minnesota Court of Appeals
The Minnesota Court of Appeals will host an event, entitled "Enhance Your Superpowers by Clerking at the Minnesota Court of Appeals". It will be hosted by Judge Peter Reyes and will feature a diverse group of our former clerks who have gone on to success in private practice, government offices, in-house positions, the nonprofit world, and more. The panel will discuss the many benefits of clerking with judges on our court and will answer questions.

Venable Presents Practice Group Showcase California & Washington, DC
Venable LLP invites you to join our first Practice Group Showcase for California and Washington, DC. We will be holding a panel to give students the opportunity to interact with attorneys in various different practice groups at Venable. 2022 Summer Law Clerk at State Farm Insurance
Conducts legal research, assembles case materials, writes research memos and drafts, pleadings and motions under the guidance and mentorship of an Attorney or Supervising Attorney. Supports attorneys by assembling and organizing information for legal documents. Generally works on a part time basis approximately 20 hours per week.
This is a remote position supporting our Los Angeles-area legal team! We are looking for law students who are available for a more long-term position starting over the summer and part-time into the fall semester.
- Essential Job Functions
- Research laws, court decisions, documents, opinions, briefs, or other information related to cases.
- Analyze legal issues and apply appropriate legal principles to determine applicable defenses, relevant arguments and litigation strategy.
- Prepare briefs, legal memoranda, or statements of issues involved in cases, including appropriate suggestions or recommendations.
- Review complaints, petitions or motions that have been filed to determine issues involved.
- Prepare responsive pleadings and correspondence as appropriate.
- Assist and provide trial attorney support in preparing trial/mediation/arbitration documents and binders.
- Attend court sessions, depositions, mediations and trials to hear oral arguments and document necessary case information.

2022 Summer and Fall Internship with the Ganje Law Offices
Current part time remote clerkship position. Position to be filled at this time. Ganje Law Office is a boutique, small firm. Mr. Ganje is a former adjunct lecturer at Albany Law. We will host a remote 2L, 3L or post-graduate opportunity with strong academic credentials including excellent writing and research skills. The candidate will work directly with attorneys and support staff in areas of law indicated on the law firm web site. Duties include research and writing, drafting correspondence, assisting attorneys and staff with file maintenance as well as trial preparation.
Candidates will work remotely, but will have opportunity to in interact remotely with attorneys during client meetings and remote court hearings. The clerkship involves approximately 5 to 10 hours per week and may be undertaken while in school or while engaged in other clerkships.
Upcoming Summer Diversity Career Fairs
June
Veterans Legal Career Fair: Veterans Legal Career Fair will take place in Washington, D.C. This career fair will match employers with experienced lawyers who have served in the U.S. military or are transitioning out of U.S. military service. The career fair will arrange one-on-one interviews and informational sessions for veterans (including active-duty JAG Corps members and reservists) seeking positions as lawyers, including with corporate legal departments, law firms, other private sector employers, and government agencies. Spouses of active members and veterans are also eligible to participate.

Bay Area Diversity Career Fair: In 2005, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and The Bar Association of San Francisco created the Bay Area's first ever Diversity Career Fair for rising second-year law students.
The Diversity Career Fair brings together prominent law firms, government legal departments, and nonprofits in the San Francisco Bay Area with highly qualified diverse rising second-year law students. The participating students come from distinguished local law schools, as well as other top schools from around the nation to interview for coveted positions in summer associate programs.
Boston Lawyers Group Job Fair: BLG members participate in various law schools on campus interviewing programs, but they do not have access to a significant number of qualified law students of color. The BLG Job Fairs provide members with access to qualified law students of color and assist them in implementing a well-rounded recruiting program. Participating members therefore expect to interview students of color; however, no student will be denied an opportunity to participate in any job fair or BLG program.
Cook County Bar Association Minority Student Law Fair: The 32nd Annual Cook County Bar Association Minority Job Fair will be held in August. This event is open to rising 2Ls and 3Ls. Participating students must be from fully accredited law schools that are ranked among the top 30 as determined by U.S. News and World Report, from law schools at historically black colleges and universities, from law schools located in the Midwest as defined by the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), or the student must be a fellow or associate of the Council on Legal Educational Opportunity.
Delaware Minority Job Fair for Second and Third-year Law Students: The Delaware Diversity Job Fair Committee of the Delaware State Bar Association invites you to apply to participate in the 31st Annual Delaware Diversity Job Fair (DDJF) to be held VIRTUALLY on Saturday, July 23, 2022. The DDJF was founded by a consortium of Delaware law firm, corporate, and public sector/interest legal employers committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Delaware bar by encouraging interested law students to explore summer and full-time opportunities to work in Delaware. The DDJF is an invitation-only event limited to rising 2L/3LED (2024) and rising 3L/4LED (2023) students interested in summer or full-time employment opportunities with law firm, government, and/or public sector/interest employers in Delaware.
Applications for the DDJF, which must include a resume, unofficial academic transcripts (law school and undergraduate), and a personal statement, are submitted through the DDJF's Symplicity recruiting site: https://lawdmpd-csm.symplicity.com/students. The application deadline is 11:59 pm ET on Friday, May 27, 2022.

LGBT Bar Association Annual Lavendar Law Fair: The National LGBT Bar Associations annual Lavender Law Career Fair is designed to achieve a sense of community and inclusion for LGBT candidates within the legal professions recruiting efforts. By participating in this career fair, candidates will talk directly to LGBT-friendly recruiters from law firms, government agencies, LGBT rights groups, and corporate legal departments. This program is designed to provide students with a safe, confidential space where they can ask questions about job search skills, being out on your resume, in interviews and in the workplace, and other related issues. The 2022 Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair will be held in Los Angeles from July 27 to July 29, 2022!

Indianapolis Bar Association Diversity Job Fair: The IndyBar Diversity Job Fair seeks DIVERSE candidates representing aspects of diversity who are looking for a one-of-a-kind legal community in a Midwestern city that has both cosmopolitan style and small-town charm. It is open to full-time 2L students or part-time 2L and 3L. Please note employers will be hiring clerks or interns, not offering permanent placement. The 2022 IndyBar Diversity Job Fair will be held in Indianapolis from August 8 to August 9, 2022!
National Black Prosecutors Association Annual Conference and Job Fair: The National Black Prosecutors Association (NBPA) hosts in Annual Job Fair Washington, D.C. The goal of the National Black Prosecutors Associations (NBPA) Job Fair is to promote diversity in prosecutors offices by providing a forum where law students, recent law graduates, and experienced attorneys from across the nation can meet and interview with prospective prosecutorial employers at the local, state, and federal levels. The 2022 Job Fair will be held at the Royal Sonesta Houston Galleria on August 2, 2022.
Minnesota Minority Recruitment Conference: The Minnesota Minority Recruitment Conference (MMRC) is an annual event that connects the largest legal employers in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area with diverse rising 2L and 3L candidates from around the country. Employers participating in the interviews will include small, medium and large firms; corporate law departments; and public interest, nonprofit and government entities. The conference is sponsored by Twin Cities Diversity in Practice but is a unique opportunity to interview with both private law firms and local government employers as well. During lunch, students enjoy a discussion on key issues relevant to their job search and building a successful career. The student registration window runs from May 9 to May 24, 2022. The conference will take place on August 5, 2022.
Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair: The 11th Annual Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair (HDLJF) will be held in Kansas City, Missouri. Students who are interested in becoming part of Kansas City's dynamic legal community should strongly consider attending this event. Students who will be returning to school in August and those graduating in May are eligible to attend the job fair, as employers will be interviewing for both summer and post-graduate positions. The job fair will take place on August 12 to August 13, 2022.
Northwest Minority Job Fair: The Northwest Minority Job Fair will be held in Seattle, WA. The Northwest Minority Job Fair, sponsored and funded by a consortium of legal sector employers, is an excellent place to begin. For 29 years, this event has brought together private and public law firms committed to promoting diversity by providing a unique opportunity for employers, law students, and lawyers to match legal talent with needs. Date TBD.
St. Louis Diversity Professional Job Fair: The St. Louis Diversity Job Fair will take place on August 8th. The primary goal of the Fair is to attract a diverse group students to the metropolitan St. Louis legal and professional community, encourage them to practice law in the area, and become an integral part of our community. The Job Fair steering committee has invited law firms, corporations, and government agencies from all over the nation. The job fair will take place on August 10, 2022.
Fellowships/Scholarship Opportunities
Summer 2023 2L Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship
Baker Donelson is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among us are understood, respected, appreciated, and recognized as sources of strength of the Firm. These qualities enrich the environment in which we work. We will award three scholarships to three diverse rising 2L law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2022. Recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position for the summer of 2023 in one of our Firm’s offices. Additionally, each recipient will be awarded $10,000, which will be paid prior to the student's third year of law school, to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses.

Summer 2023 2023 2L Mintz Summer Associate & Diversity Scholarship
Mintz is currently accepting applications for 2L students who seek a highly personalized summer experience for our Boston Summer Associate program. Our Summer Associates select a practice area of interest (Corporate, Litigation, or Intellectual Property) and are immersed in that practice area for the duration of the program. Summer Associates work on an array of matters, often staffed on cases or deal teams, where they can gain real, hands-on experience working side by side with our lawyers. Our small class size, coupled with our Member and Associate mentorship program, allows students a broad range of opportunities and experience, customized to their individual goals and interests. After spending nine weeks at the firm, our Summer Associates know our lawyers, understand what we do, and are ready to hit the ground running after law school.

Summer 2023 2L Warner Norcross + Judd Diversity Scholarship
Warner Norcross + Judd's scholarship program is intended to promote diversity in the legal profession in Michigan by assisting rising 2L law students in good standing from a historically marginalized community. Warner will award one scholarship of $20,000 to a qualified candidate, divided into four-$5,000 payments over four consecutive semesters. In addition, eligible applicants will be offered a 2L summer associate position in 2023. The scholarship winner will be announced and notified by July 11, 2022.

The American Bar Association requires law schools to provide employment information as part of the accreditation process, making it crucial that we have accurate employment information. All individual identifying information is confidential and not shared outside the law school. The GES also gives our office your ongoing contact information so that we can share relevant job opportunities with you after graduation if you are looking for employment.
Those who complete their GES by May 31st will be entered into a raffle to win a 10.2-inch Apple iPad! Raffle drawing will take place on June 1st.
To complete the survey:
- Log in to Symplicity
- Click on the words "Graduate Employment Survey.” It is the blue banner on the home screen when you login.
- Fill in the missing information (your screen may refresh with the addition of new information)
- Click the "Save Changes" button when you have completed the survey
Notable Clarifications
- Timing of offer: before or after graduation -This question is asking when you accepted your offer, not your start date. If you accept your offer on May 10th and graduate May 14th, you select “before graduation”.
- Start date deferred - This is only to be selected if you start your job after March 15, 2023 (so the spring AFTER you already graduated).
- If you will be working as a Public Defender, your “Job Type” is “Public Interest,” not “Government.” This categorization is set by the ABA.
- “I have not received an offer and should not fill out the GES.” - Fill the survey out anyway! It is a useful tool to help the Career Services Office better serve you.

FREE Supplemental Bar Review!
With bar review just around the corner, we want to remind you that everyone at Iowa Law is here to support you. We know that the bar exam is a challenging feat. We are thinking about you and wishing you the very best.
To support you as you prepare, Iowa Law is offering you a FREE supplemental Kaplan course, which typically costs $250 per student. There is no obligation to complete this course –it is simply an extra resource for those who feel it would be helpful. This is a three-day course which gives you the opportunity to take a practice MBE and virtually attend a lecture to learn tips and tricks for improving your score – you are even able to interact via chat with a live professor to ask questions! The three-day supplemental course fills some of the time between the end of your extended course and the administration of a bar exam.
Please note, this is a three-day supplemental course only and will not alone prepare you for the bar exam. If you have not yet, you should still sign up for and diligently complete a full-length bar preparation program. If you need financial help to purchase a full-length course, Jessica-Diers@uiowa.edu can discuss bar loans with you.
To register for this free course, you need to do two things:
- Email melissa-norman@uiowa.edu by Friday, July 1st, to let her know which bar you will take. Then she will share your name and email address to register you with Kaplan; AND
- Complete your Graduate Employment Survey (GES) in Symplicity, even if you haven’t yet secured a job. If you have trouble completing your GES, contact Nathan-c-davis@uiowa.edu for assistance.

Public Defender Mentorship Program
The Iowa State Public Defender will offer a Monday Mentors program beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 or later if warranted. It will take place every Monday thereafter at the same time and via the same zoom link provided below. The idea is to provide a time for young public defenders, contract attorneys, and aspiring law students to ask questions whether related to a specific case, criminal defense in general, or career questions, and obtain feedback and guidance from others similarly situated and from defense attorneys with years of experience. Breakout rooms will be provided as needed to facilitate communication. We hope you take advantage of this program. Aaron Hawbaker will moderate the meetings.
