Our first Meet the Law Hawks event in Denver RSVP deadline is coming to a close soon. This event is co-sponsored by the University of Iowa Colorado Alumni Association (Hawks on the Rocks). It will be a night of meeting, mixing, and mingling with alumni who are practicing law in Colorado. We are close to capacity with over 20 plus alumni ranging from both the private and public interest law field.

ABA Health Law Section Presents: What is Health Law?

The ABA Health Law Section is pleased to announce the first in a series of free “What Is Health Law?” webinars. In this context, the World Bank Legal Vice Presidency cordially invites you to its annual Law, Justice and Development (LJD) Week where leading practitioners will be discussing opportunities for the international development community to partner for impact by enabling and mobilizing the private sector for sustainable development.

Public Defender Mentorship Program

The Iowa State Public Defender will offer a Monday Mentors program beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 or later if warranted.  It will take place every Monday thereafter at the same time and via the same zoom link provided below.  The idea is to provide a time for young public defenders, contract attorneys, and aspiring law students to ask questions whether related to a specific case, criminal defense in general, or career questions, and obtain feedback and guidance from others similarly situated and from defense attorneys with years of experience. Breakout rooms will be provided as needed to facilitate communication.  We hope you take advantage of this program. If you are interested in public defense, and cannot make the Monday meetings, please reach out to Kimberly DePalma at kdepalma@spd.state.ia.us.

2024-2025 MPA-EICOP Entertainment Law & Policy Fellow

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) partnered with the Entertainment Industry College Outreach Program (EICOP) to launch the MPA-EICOP Entertainment Law & Policy Fellowship — an entertainment-focused law and policy program that is dedicated to advancing the cause of diversity, inclusion, and equity in the entertainment industry.

This prestigious program ensures the best and brightest students have the opportunity to participate in the entertainment industry, regardless of their background, by providing selected Fellows with housing, travel, and stipends to participate in the year-long program.

Fellows will gain relevant experience working at the MPA as well as its member studios and interact with senior executives and policymakers, while building the skills needed to prepare them to be the next generation of law and policy leaders in the entertainment industry.

The Entertainment Law & Policy Fellowship is the first entertainment-focused law and policy program of its kind. Two dynamic upcoming/recent grads who have demonstrated an interest in entertainment law or entertainment policy, along with a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in the entertainment industry, will be selected as Fellows during each annual period.

The year-long program is an immersive and bi-coastal educational experience in Los Angeles and Washington, DC that hones the skills needed to prepare for future roles in the law and policy fields. The program enables Fellows to:

·       Interface with MPA Policy and Legal executives to understand the entertainment landscape and various roles.

·       Gain relevant practical experience through MPA member studios (Disney, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, Universal, and Netflix).

·       Interact and network with senior-level industry executives and policymakers while building the skills necessary to prepare for future law and policy leadership.

The Fellowship is open to anyone who has:

  • An interest in entertainment policy or entertainment law;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in the entertainment industry; and
  • Recently obtained, or will have obtained, a J.D., Master of Public Policy, or other related advanced degree.

The Fellowship is open to all applicants, regardless of race, gender, age, national origin, sexual orientation, sexual identity, disability status, or any other category protected by law. MPA encourages all qualified applicants to apply.

FCBA Diversity Pipeline Program Applications

The FCBA Diversity Pipeline Program is a competitive internship and legal skills development program that prepares first-year law students with diverse backgrounds and perspectives for elite careers in technology, media, and telecom (“TMT”) law and policy.

It achieves this by facilitating access to paid internship opportunities for students during law school through the Diversity Pipeline Internship Program, introducing them to the field through the TMT Law & Policy Certificate Program, and providing them with continued learning and support during their internships through the Summer Series and Mentorship Program. For all the details about the Program, including the application requirements, timeline, and criteria, please refer to the attached Student Application Information Packet.
