The American Society of International Law Midyear Meeting
The American Society of International Law hosts a Midyear Meeting annually in late October or early November. The meeting encompasses several events, including leadership meetings of the Society's Executive Council and the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law; the Research Forum, which features cutting-edge international law scholarship by more than 70 authors; and programming for practitioners. The Midyear Meeting has been held since 2010 in Miami, Los Angeles, Athens & Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Washington, DC, Seattle, St. Louis, New York, and virtually.
Registration is now open for the 2022 Midyear Meeting of the American Society of International Law, to be held on Thursday to Saturday, November 10-12, at ASIL Law Firm Partner Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (Thursday, November 10) and ASIL Academic Partner University of Miami School of Law (Friday & Saturday, November 11-12).

Workforce Recruitment Program 2023 Recruitment Program
The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal and private-sector employers nationwide with highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs.
Candidates apply to the WRP each fall through participating campuses managed by a School Coordinator and can receive elective informational interviews with federal employees who serve as volunteer recruiters. Candidates represent all majors, and range from college freshmen to graduate- and law-school students. Information from candidates is compiled in a searchable database that is available through this website to employers.
WRP is recognized by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as a model strategy in its guidance to federal agencies regarding the recruitment and hiring of people with disabilities. Since the program's expansion in 1995, thousands of students and recent graduates have received temporary and permanent employment opportunities through the WRP.

These programs are the primary means by which the federal government hires entry-level attorneys. Below is a brief description of a few agencies selected honors programs. Environmental Appeals Board Honors Program Clerkship
The EAB Honors Clerkship Program is a highly competitive two-year clerkship. The key objectives are to provide recent law school graduates with the opportunity to practice public sector environmental law and to provide the EAB with highly motivated, talented, and diverse entry-level lawyers who are interested in a variety of legal work on cutting-edge administrative and environmental law issues.
- Conduct legal research for the Environmental Appeals Judges and one or more Senior Attorney-Advisers in connection with cases under administrative appeal to the Environmental Appeals Board.
- Interpret and apply statutes, rules and regulations relating to the provisions of appropriate Acts and other pertinent laws, regulations, court decisions administrative rulings.
- Search case reports, briefs, hearing records, transcripts, memoranda and legal documents.
- Assist Senior Attorney-Advisers in the preparation and review for legal sufficiency of all matters on appeal to the Environmental Appeals Board under major environmental statutes administered by the Agency.
- Analyze legal and scientific data pertinent to the case, including testimony and pleadings, and evaluate the relevant facts and law.
- Prepare reports, exhibits, and legal memoranda, outlining the factual and legal issues for evaluation by the Environment Appeals Judges for a final Agency decision.
- Analyze complex, legal, scientific, engineering and other information and interprets the significance of this data under prevailing legal principles, as expressed in statutes, regulations and case law.
- Assist in the preparation for, and conduct of, oral argument and analysis of the hearing record as directed by the Environmental Appeals Judges and/or Senior Attorney-Adviser.
How to apply: Please submit cover letter, resume, and legal writing sample not-to-exceed 10 pages (for which the applicant is the primary author - with only minor (if any) edits by others). The writing sample should include a legal analysis section. Transcripts are not required, but recommended if you have three years or less of experience. Housing and Urban Development - Office of the General Counsel Honors Program
The Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of General Counsel is happy to announce that we are recruiting for the 2023-2024 Legal Honors Program.
HUD’s Legal Honors Program is designed for law students graduating from J.D. and LLM programs, and recent law school graduates completing a judicial clerkship. The Legal Honors Program is HUD’s only hiring program for entry-level attorneys. Subject to appropriations, approximately 10-20 legal honor positions are available annually in headquarters and field offices. Successful candidates begin work in August or September and participate in a 14-month appointment that may lead to a permanent position, pending bar admission. During the program, Legal Honors are assigned mentors, are given the opportunity to rotate to other offices within OGC and participate in additional training and monthly discussions to enhance their program experience and develop their legal abilities.
The program is highly competitive, and candidates are selected on the basis of merit. Selection considerations include many factors such as: academic achievement; law review and other publication work; extracurricular activities such as moot court competitions and legal clinics; employment history; and participation in activities related to HUD’s mission.

2023 Spring Externship Opportunity
Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ)
The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) is looking for Spring 2023 Interns! CEQ interns provide critical research and writing assistance on a range of environmental policies and have the opportunity to perform diverse and substantive policy work. CEQ is looking for students who are highly motivated and able to handle face pace and quick turnaround assignments. CEQ offers part-time and full-time internships but requires a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week. This is an in-person paid internship and applicants must be U.S. citizens and current undergraduate or graduate students.

International Corporate Accountability Roundtable (ICAR) Legal and Policy Intern
The International Corporate Accountability Roundtable (ICAR) is a coalition of 40+ member and partner organizations committed to ending corporate abuse of people and the planet. We advocate for real protections and strong enforcement of the law to protect the public by enacting reasonable safeguards against corporate abuse, protecting those who speak out against corporate wrongdoing, and combating the rise of the corporate state. ICAR is fiscally sponsored by Tides Center.
The Legal and Policy Intern is responsible for supporting the work of ICAR’s legal staff. Internship tasks include conducting legal research and writing in support of the above work streams, developing and drafting blog posts, researching pending legislation and regulatory comment periods related to corporate accountability, producing case summaries of corporate accountability-related litigation, and drafting minutes from meetings as required.

U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa
Assignments include, but are not limited to, assisting attorneys with legal research; writing pleadings; trial preparation; and drafting responsive motions, dispositive motions, memoranda of law, and appellate briefs. The law student volunteers will become familiar with the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure, the Federal Rules of Evidence, the local rules of practice for the United States District Court, and the local and Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure. In addition, they may attend witness interviews, meetings with investigative agents, and accompany the attorneys to observe court proceedings in cases on which they have worked or in cases of general interest in the office. Law students who qualify to practice under the district court's student practice rules may also be assigned to handle motion hearings. Our goal is to introduce law students to the federal legal system and to help them develop their practical legal skills.

Fellowships/Scholarship Opportunities
2023-2025 Christine A. Brunswick Public Service Fellowship
The ABA Tax Section has operated this fellowship since 2008 with an impressive impact on communities throughout the country. In addition to representing low-income taxpayers and completing a public service project, prior fellows have gone on to careers in public interest tax, clerkships, private tax practice, academia, and government positions, and have held leadership positions throughout the Tax Section. The fellowship provides two years of funding to practice public interest tax law at a qualifying host organization and free travel, lodging, and registration to the main Tax Section meetings. Both LLM and JD candidates are eligible to apply. The Fellow’s proposed employmentmust involve taxation or administration of tax law and must be with a public interest, non-profit organization, or government entity. Each Fellow is expected to make a two-year commitment to the Sponsoring Organization.

Public Defender Mentorship Program
The Iowa State Public Defender will offer a Monday Mentors program beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 or later if warranted. It will take place every Monday thereafter at the same time and via the same zoom link provided below. The idea is to provide a time for young public defenders, contract attorneys, and aspiring law students to ask questions whether related to a specific case, criminal defense in general, or career questions, and obtain feedback and guidance from others similarly situated and from defense attorneys with years of experience. Breakout rooms will be provided as needed to facilitate communication. We hope you take advantage of this program.
