Final 2023–24 General Catalog Deadlines & Looking Ahead to the 2024–25 Catalog Cycle

You are receiving this message because you were part of the 2023–24 catalog editing cycle. If your position or responsibilities have changed, please let us know at registrar-publications@uiowa.edu.

The archival version of the 2023–24 General Catalog will be created on Sept. 1, 2023. Until Sept. 1, the catalog team will consider requests to update administrators, URLs, program additions/closures, and courses with a FA23 session start date. After Sept. 1, 2023, only changes to administrators and URLs will be updated in the online 2023–24 catalog.

Individual colleges may have additional, earlier deadlines regarding changes to catalog pages.

Workflow Updates

The General Catalog uses the CourseLeaf content management system (CMS) for editing that has a separate workflow system not attached to MAUI. All references to “workflow” refer to the CourseLeaf workflow system.

Existing CourseLeaf workflow initiators will receive an email in September asking to verify and update the workflow chain for each of their catalog pages. If you would like to know who initiates workflow for your pages, please email registrar-publications@uiowa.edu.

NEW: For Programs with Degrees Awarded by Graduate College

Programs with degrees awarded by the Graduate College must complete a catalog change form by Nov. 1, 2023, for degree requirement changes in the 2024–25 catalog. The catalog team will only accept changes to catalog copy if the required catalog change form has been submitted, indicating Graduate College approval/notification. For more information, please attend the Summer Graduate Coordinator meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. Add this meeting to your calendar.

Important 2024–25 General Catalog Dates

December 2023

Catalog Editing Period Begins: Monday, Dec. 4

February 2024

Catalog Editing Period Closes: Monday, Feb. 5

What to Do During the Catalog Editing Period

  1. Departmental initiators review their catalog pages and make changes as needed.
  2. Push green “Start workflow” button, which forwards the pages in workflow to the next reviewer. Even if you do not have changes, you must push the “Start Workflow” button on each page to push them to the catalog team.
  3. Once each reviewer has reviewed the page and pushed it through the CourseLeaf workflow, the catalog team edits the pages for style, accuracy, and adherence to collegiate standards for the catalog.
  4. Catalog team sends a proof review email to all reviewers for a page with a link to the revised page and any remaining questions. Proof review emails will continue to be sent after the ‘open for editing’ period ends as the catalog team edits these pages.
  5. Catalog pages may then be reviewed by collegiate approvers, the degree audit team, and/or the sample plans team in the Office of the Registrar.

Catalog Editing Period Closed

  1. All catalog pages reviewed by catalog team by early April 2024.
  2. Catalog team can accept changes on a case-by-case basis with the understanding that everyone in a workflow path will need to approve requested changes if the page has already gone past the proof review stage.
  3. All changes to the catalog pause on Friday, May 3 to prepare for publication.
  4. 2024–25 online catalog is live by June 1, 2024, to be used for fall 2024 orientation.
  5. Work by the degree audit and sample plans teams will continue into the summer months.

2024–2025 General Catalog Published

June 2024

  • Users may review the published catalog for errors. Catalog team can accommodate minor revisions to the 2024–25 catalog on a case-by-case basis.
  • Changes related to curricular accuracy are reviewed and considered in consultation with curricular and degree-granting colleges and the Registrar curriculum management team for downstream impacts. Note that individual colleges may have stricter internal deadlines, which the catalog team honors.

July 2024–August 2024

  • Limit requests for updates to those regarding program openings/closings and administrator or URL updates.
  • Curricular changes will be considered, although the catalog team will save most changes for the 2025–26 catalog editing period. Please keep in mind that requirements should not change once students have registered.
  • Course library changes (adds, drops, revisions) with a spring semester start date are saved for the next catalog editing cycle (in this case, 2025–26).

September 2024

  • Creation of archival PDF, no further changes permitted to 2024–25 General Catalog: Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.
