2024–25 General Catalog Editing

You are receiving this message because you have been designated as member of the 2024–25 General Catalog workflow.

The Office of the Registrar will open the 2024–25 General Catalog on Monday, Dec. 4 for your review. All updates should be made via the catalog's content management system (CMS).

Those who are first in workflow for a page (initiators) will receive an email letting them know when they can access the system. Everyone else in the workflow will receive an email when it is their time to review the catalog. Please note: These emails are generated by the catalog's workflow system and not the university's universal workflow.

Additional information about using the CourseLeaf CMS may be found in the UI General Catalog How-To Guide linked below.

If you are interested in an individual training session on how to update the catalog, please contact registrar-pubications@uiowa.edu.

General Catalog Open for Editing

Due Date

Updates must be completed by all reviewers in your workflow chain by Monday, Feb. 5, 2024. You will likely have more than one catalog page to review and send in workflow. Your departmental/program information page and each major, minor, and certificate program are on separate catalog pages.

Additional Information

What to Do During the Catalog Editing Period

  1. Departmental initiators review their catalog pages and make changes as needed.
  2. Push green “Start workflow” button, which forwards the pages in workflow to the next reviewer. Even if you do not have changes, you must push the “Start Workflow” button on each page to push them to the catalog team.
  3. Once each reviewer has reviewed the page and pushed it through the CourseLeaf workflow, the catalog team edits the pages for style, accuracy, and adherence to collegiate standards for the catalog.
  4. Catalog team sends a proof review email to all reviewers for a page with a link to the revised page and any remaining questions. Proof review emails will continue to be sent after the ‘open for editing’ period ends as the catalog team edits these pages.
  5. Catalog pages may then be reviewed by collegiate approvers, the degree audit team, and/or the sample plans team in the Office of the Registrar.

What Happens When the Catalog Editing Period Closes

  1. All catalog pages reviewed by catalog team by early April 2024.
  2. Catalog team can accept changes on a case-by-case basis with the understanding that everyone in a workflow path will need to approve requested changes if the page has already gone past the proof review stage.
  3. All changes to the catalog pause on Friday, May 3, 2024 to prepare for publication.
  4. 2024–25 online catalog is live by June 1, 2024, to be used for fall 2024 orientation.
  5. Work by the degree audit and sample plans teams will continue into the summer months.

Courses

Most of the course information in the catalog is extracted from the course approval forms submitted through the MAUI Course Library. If you submit course revisions or deletions, please make the effective session on the forms no later than fall 2024 if you want them to be reflected in the 2024–25 catalog. If you add new courses, you can make the effective session on the forms no later than spring 2025 to be included in the catalog. Questions regarding the course approval form may be sent to reg-course-approval@uiowa.edu.

Workflow Changes

The catalog workflow chain in your department/program was updated in mid-September. If you need to make additional changes to individuals in your workflow before the editing period opens, please contact the catalog team at registrar-publications@uiowa.edu. Requesting workflow changes after the editing period has opened may cause delays to your workflow routing and page updates.

Sample Plans of Study

Sample Plans will not appear in the published catalog until a program’s pages are completed by the department and the sample plans team can confirm a plan will match 2024–25 catalog requirements. If you have any curriculum changes, an advisor or coordinator associated with your program can review and update the sample plan in MAUI. Updates should be submitted by Friday, Mar. 29 to ensure timely inclusion in the catalog. You can contact the sample plans team by email at reg-sample-plans@uiowa.edu.
