2023–24 General Catalog

The 2023–24 General Catalog is now live!

This edition of the catalog is published around June 1 in order to be available for new University of Iowa students. Sample plans will continue to be added throughout the summer. The final edition of the catalog and a PDF version will be available after the creation of the archival PDF this fall.

Catalog Team Update

This May, the catalog team said goodbye to Teresa Watson, who is now focusing on her work with course offerings and classroom scheduling in the Office of the Registrar. Teresa has been involved with the catalog for over 25 years, seeing it move from print copies dispersed on campus to the digital version you see today. Thank you, Teresa, for all that you have done! Updates to DDEOs

Updates to departmental administrators that were previously sent to Teresa Watson should now be sent to reg-acad-structure@uiowa.edu.

Alignment with Iowa Editorial Style Guide

The team will continue working this summer to align the General Catalog with the Iowa Editorial Style Guide created by the Office of Strategic Communication. Recent and ongoing changes include changing g.p.a. to grade-point average/GPA, removing periods in degree abbreviations, and updating hyphens between inclusive numbers to en-dashes. The most up-to-date copy of the style guide is always available on the brand manual website at the bottom of the messaging page.

Creation of the Archival PDF

The archival PDF of the 2023–24 General Catalog will be created on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023.

Any changes between now and the PDF creation should be minimal, related to the opening or closing of a program of study, adding or removing a course, or updating departmental administrators. Note that changes must be approved by the program college and may not be feasible given downstream effects in other areas of the Office of the Registrar. The curriculum management teams (catalog, degree audit, sample plans, program of study/academic structure, and course library) address late changes on a case-by-case basis.

The archival PDF preserves the final web version of the catalog in PDF format for historical purposes and Veterans Affairs compliance. You will be notified when the archival PDF has been published.
