This message is intended for all campus contacts that receive program of study (POS) memo updates via email from the Office of the Registrar.
At the request of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and with approval from the Office of the Provost and Iowa Board of Regents, the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures will become the Department of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures (LLLC) on July 1, 2025. After this date, this MAUI department will administratively hold the following academic units:
- American Sign Language
- Arabic Language and Literature (formally a subdepartment of French and Italian)
- Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures
- English as a Second Language (formally a subdepartment of Linguistics)
- French and Italian
- German
- International Studies
- Linguistics
- Russian (formally a subdepartment of Asian and Slavic Languages & Literatures)
- Swahili (formally a subdepartment of French and Italian)
Related programs of study and course subjects will remain with their academic units under LLLC except for the CL course subject which will be inactivated once it is removed from existing courses.
