Fall is here and we are all working hard toward another successful semester.

In August we welcomed the third-largest incoming freshmen class on record at 5,178 students, including hosting a CLAS Welcome Party on the Pentacrest. Check out the great photos! We are so fortunate to have so many talented people working in our college to support and educate our students.

With the new academic year, new faculty participated in orientation and many of you kicked off new committee assignments, including the first DEO meeting of the year and the gathering of our newly named Administrative Leadership Team (ALT), previously known as ASG.

Please save the date for the Homecoming Parade on Friday, Oct. 28 at 5:45 p.m. Come sport your Hawkeye gear and cheer on our colleagues who will walk in the parade. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Becca Tritten at rebecca-tritten@uiowa.edu.

Thank you for being a part of our CLAS community.

Students learned about networking, prioritizing values, resume building, and interviewing. They also sat in on three panels featuring alumni and friends with experience in industry, academics, and non-profits. Special thanks to the faculty and staff who made this two-day event possible.

Free flu vaccinations

UI employees can get the flu vaccine for free at locations across campus. Biology Professor Maurine Neiman, who lost her 2-year-old son J.J. to influenza, co-wrote this powerful essay for the Minneapolis Star Tribune called "It's not just the flu," which emphasizes the inappropriateness of minimizing the seriousness of flu and the importance of receiving a vaccine.
