Mark your calendar for the Homecoming Parade on Friday, Oct. 6 at 5:45 p.m. We are back at it again, but this year CLAS is a sponsor and entered the parade float competition. The college is seeking about 20 walkers to participate in our parade entry. You can sign up to walk. Spots will fill fast, first come, first served!
All are welcome to come cheer and spectate during the parade. Show your CLAS spirit and wear your favorite gear. We hope to see you there.

The Department of Mathematics helped launch the Math Alliance, which has had an incredible impact in expanding access to doctorate degrees to people of color across the country, including 50 minority graduates from Iowa.
Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science professor Dale Zimmerman was named a 2023 Institute of Mathematical Statistics fellow. Between 10 to 25 fellows are elected each year through a competitive process.
Graduate students and postdocs gathered last month for a two-day professional development event designed to prepare them for their future careers. Attendees heard from faculty and alumni in a series of workshops, panels,and presentations.
The Mary Louise Kelley Professional Development Award encourages CLAS staff to pursue job-related education, training, and other professional activities with an award of up to $500. Learn how one staff member used the funds last year to attend an event. Apply by Nov. 10.
Check out the new UI Libraries exhibit that shares the story of Bill Sackter, an Iowa City legend and advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, and the namesake of Wild Bill’s in the School of Social Work. The narrative places Bill’s experiences within the context of disability rights and the historic treatment of people with disabilities.
The Nonfiction Writing House, a newly constructed two-story facility with classrooms, offices, a multimedia lab, a library, a memorial garden, and more, will be dedicated this week. Speakers at the ceremony include UI President Barbara Wilson, CLAS associate dean Roland Racevskis, and others.
