CLA Part 2 classes participated in fun and exciting service-learning projects throughout the semester. Here are some highlights from a few classes where students participated in service projects with Johnson County and the Food Pantry at Iowa!
Clothing Closet/ Food Pantry at Iowa
CLA students participated in reorganizing inventory, assisting with sizing and learning about what the pantry and closet have to offer students at the University. The Clothing Closet provides University of Iowa students, postdocs, faculty, and staff with access to quality new or used professional clothing at no cost.

Medical Reserve Corps
CLA students are also partnering with Johnson County to provide support in multiple areas across our local community.

CLA instructor Tracey Pritchard discussed what her online distance students are accomplishing thus far:
“This particular group is focusing on how to get the word out about the amazing volunteer opportunities available through the MRC. The Johnson County Medical Reserve Corps is a group of volunteers that is able to assist Johnson County’s health care system by providing additional staff during emergency operations, and preparedness activities. It is open to both medical and non-medical volunteers, and anyone over the age of 18 can join. They’ve been spreading the word about how college students are perfect for this type of work. No need to have a medical background, only a few hours a week, and they can make a massive difference! They are targeting classrooms and residence halls to spread the word through virtual postings.”
