Harnessing the power of data storytelling: ICON Day 2024 recap

At ICON Day 2024, our keynote was delivered by Kate McDowell, associate professor at the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, who discussed the essence of storytelling, its dynamic nature, and the crucial relationship between the teller and the audience, inspiring the audience to learn on their own. We also honored the 2024 ICON All Star recipients and hosted several workshops.

Course Accessibility for Everyone (CAFE): Basic ICON tips

Join us at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, to learn some basics to help make your ICON course site accessible to all your students. This session will focus on how to improve some easy-to-fix issues in site design, such as usage of headings, tables, or color contrast, so you can make sure any user can navigate and use your site with ease.

Copycat academy: The art of the course copy

Attend this session at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, or at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, to learn how to copy an ICON course for a new semester in this step-by-step workshop. We'll cover settings, integrated tools, and common pitfalls to avoid.

Take time in January to increase the accessibility of your ICON courses for the spring 2025 semester. Course Accessibility for Everyone (CAFE) will offer basic ICON tips on Monday, Jan. 13; alternative text on Wednesday, Jan. 15; video captions and audio transcripts on Tuesday, Jan. 21; and document accessibility on Thursday, Jan. 23.

Join this information session at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, to learn the basic functions of UICapture, including creating, editing, and sharing recordings.

AI in your syllabus

This workshop will give you the ability to craft AI policies that set clear boundaries and expectations, promote adaptability and critical engagement with AI, and spark meaningful conversations with students.
