Fall 2020 Virtual Commencement Updates

Happy Friday! UI Commencement is excited to provide some news and updates on how the fall virtual commencement ceremonies are progressing.

The new RSVP system is working well and we've had a steady number of students signing up. We've reached out to eligible fall graduating students informing them of the RSVP process:

Many spring graduating students were hoping to come back to an in-person ceremony this fall and didn't participate in the virtual spring ceremonies. We've also reached out to those students to inform them that they can still participate in the fall virtual ceremonies:

If you know anyone who is planning to graduate this fall, we encourage you to reach out to them to see if they have RSVP’d for a fall 2020 virtual commencement ceremony. The deadline is December 2nd, so there's still time!

We would also like to take this opportunity to highlight a few facts about the virtual ceremonies:

  • Each ceremony is unique! All colleges with a fall ceremony are working working with the video production team to showcase what it means to graduate from that college.
  • All students who RSVP'd yes will be individually recognized at their virtual ceremony. 
  • The videos will be embedded on the college ceremony page and will be livestreamed on YouTube Premiere.
    • Viewers watching on YouTube will be able to join the live chat!
    • It's a great way to congratulate the students in real time.

Video Production Updates

The video production team is currently hard at work producing and collecting content from all colleges and other members of the university community. We were able to secure a spot on campus where all social distancing guidelines could be followed and we're really excited for you to tune in and check it out.
 
This team has coordinated with university leadership and followed all safety protocols to bring a really special experience to the screen.
 
They have done an amazing job and we would like to thank them for their efforts!

Do you know a Hawkeye that’s graduating next month? Help us celebrate them and their significant accomplishment!

Please consider submitting a video (:10 seconds or less) via direct message on Facebook or Instagram (@uiowa) with words of encouragement and praise for your special student.

All submissions will be considered for a video that is being created for commencement and are due by December 1st.
