Fall 2020 Virtual Commencement Updates

UI Commencement is pleased to announce that the fall 2020 commemorative commencement packages are starting to ship to students. All summer 2020 students with a conferred degree and all fall 2020 students seeking a degree will receive this package at their diploma delivery address.

What will be in the package?

  • A diploma cover with a message stating the diploma will be arriving at a later date.
  • The fall 2020 commemorative commencement program.
  • A commemorative pin.
  • A welcome to the Hawkeye Family message from the Center for Advancement.

What won't be in the package?

  • The diploma.
  • The diploma will be shipped after degrees are conferred; approximately 6 weeks after the ceremonies. 

We would also like to take this opportunity to highlight a few facts about the virtual ceremonies:

  • Each ceremony is unique! All colleges with a fall ceremony are working with the video production team to showcase what it means to graduate from that college.
  • All students who RSVP'd yes will be individually recognized at their virtual ceremony. Students must RSVP to be recognized at the virtual ceremonies.
  • If you know anyone who is planning to graduate this fall, we encourage you to reach out to them to see if they have RSVP’d for a fall 2020 virtual commencement ceremony.
    • The deadline is December 2nd, so there's still time! 
  • The videos will be embedded on the college ceremony page and will be livestreamed on YouTube Premiere.
    • Viewers watching on YouTube will be able to join the live chat!
    • It's a great way to congratulate the students in real time.

Subscription Lists

UI Commencement is starting to receive questions regarding spring 2021 commencement. No decision has been made on the status of spring 2021 ceremonies. 
 
We understand that many students graduating virtually may want to come back and participate in a future in-person ceremony. 
 
As soon as a decision has been made we will post to our website, but we've also created a spring 2021 subscription list and a subscription list webpage. If you know someone graduating virtually in fall who might want to come back for a in-person ceremony in spring, or if you're interested in spring 2021 commencement we encourage you to sign up!
 

 

Video Congratulations

Do you know a Hawkeye that’s graduating next month? Help us celebrate them and their significant accomplishment!

Please consider submitting a video (:10 seconds or less) via direct message on Facebook or Instagram (@uiowa) with words of encouragement and praise for your special student.

All submissions will be considered for a video that is being created for commencement and are due by December 1st.
