Course Drop and Early Registration Updates

Course Drop and Early Registration Updates

To better serve undergraduate students, the University of Iowa has made a pair of changes to the academic calendar that are effective immediately.

Final Day for Undergraduates to Drop a Course

The final day for undergraduates to drop an individual semester-length course is now Monday, Nov. 14. Previously the deadline was Monday, Oct. 31. The new date provides students with additional time to meet with their advisors after mid-term grades and evaluate their academic performance.

Monday, Nov. 14 is also the final date for undergraduates to withdraw their entire registration. Undergraduate students who wish to drop a course or withdraw their registration after that date will need approval from the dean.

Friday, Sept. 2 is still the final day for a student to drop a course without a “W” being recorded on the student’s transcript. This allows the Office of Student Financial Aid to correctly calculate pace for satisfactory academic progress.

Additional Week for Early Registration

Early course registration for the winter 2022 and spring 2023 sessions will now take place over three weeks, with students being able to continue registering for courses after they return from fall break.

The first two weeks of early registration will still take place Nov. 7–18. The additional week of registration will run Nov. 28–Dec. 2.

The adjustment provides additional time for advisors and collegiate partners to work together and make course adjustments to meet the needs of students.
