The Commencement RSVP Portal is Open
Know someone that is planning on participating in a fall 2023 commencement ceremony? The RSVP portal in MyUI is open!
The RSVP process is an opt-in system. Only students who RSVP as "I plan to participate" by the deadline and attend the ceremony will have their names read and displayed during the ceremony broadcast.
If students are not planning to attend their ceremony we ask that they indicate "I do not plan to participate" in MyUI. We highly encourage all degree applicants to RSVP in MyUI as attending or not attending to help allocate appropriate ceremony resources.
The RSVP portal is located in MyUI within the Degrees/Graduation tile under Commencement Attendance. Students will receive a confirmation email to their university email account once their RSVP has been finalized. Only students can RSVP and see their RSVP status.
If your student is graduating in fall 2023 and the college does not hold a fall ceremony, the student will not have an RSVP option in MyUI. Have your student please contact the coordinator listed for the college about participating in a future ceremony.

- Receive updates: Encourage any other guests to sign up for the fall 2023 commencement subscription list to receive updates. Students will continue to receive updates via their university email account.
- Ceremony details: Visit the commencement ceremonies page and find the college ceremony of your student for important information about spring ceremonies.
- Apparel (cap and gown): Commencement apparel/regalia is now available to order! All graduates are expected to wear academic regalia at their ceremonies. Regalia will not be available to purchase or rent at the ceremonies. More apparel information can be found on the commencement website.
Apparel Ordering Info and Deadlines
Commencement apparel should be purchased or rented in advance, as it will not be available at the ceremonies. Additional details are available on the apparel page on the commencement website.
- Undergraduate students will purchase and keep the University of Iowa bachelor’s gown, tassel, and mortar board using the Herff Jones online ordering portal. The deadline to order for pickup in the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore is Saturday, Oct. 28. If you choose to pay to ship your undergraduate regalia to your home, the order deadline is Monday, Nov. 13.
- Graduate College students participating in the fall 2023 commencement ceremony will rent the University of Iowa master's or doctoral gown using the Herff Jones online ordering portal. The rental deadline for Graduate College commencement regalia is Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 10:59 p.m. CST.
Additional Deadlines/Reminders
- Students can edit their RSVP attendance response in MyUI until the end of the day on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023.
- Students can add or edit a commencement slide photo until Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023. Slides are for personal use and are not used at the in-person ceremonies.
