Whether you’re searching for an internship, looking to land a full-time job, or just curious as to which companies recruit on campus, you do not want to miss our All Majors Career Fair happening on Wednesday, February 22 from 12-4pm in the Main Lounge & International Ballroom (2nd Floor) of the IMU.

#5 Plan to Dress for Success

Dress for the fair is business/smart casual (or professional if you wish!), but you don’t need to drop a lot of cash to look profesh! Stop by the Clothing Closet for free gently-used professional attire, including shoes and accessories.  

Smart casual includes items like blazers, sports jackets, dresses, sweaters, trousers, khakis, skirts, blouses, button-down shirts, polos, dress shoes, boots, heels, flats, scarves and jewelry.

Business casual includes trousers, pencil skirts, slacks, khakis, blouses, button-down shirts, polos, sweaters and sports coats. Accessories may include simple jewelry, belts or ties. Business casual shoes include loafers, lifestyle sneakers (with leather or canvas), mules, flats, Oxfords, boots and heels.

Business professional typically refers to clothing choices like dark-colored (gray, navy) suits and ties, pantsuits, tidy dresses, skirts or slacks. Tops include button-down shirts (in colors like white or light-blue), blouses and a blazer.

 

Utilize the Closing Closets on Campus

Each semester, a student can get free professional clothing to be used for interviews, jobs, class presentations, and more. he Clothing Closet at Iowa is located in room 213 of the Iowa Memorial Union. 

Spring 2023 Hours:

  • Mondays: 1–⁠5 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: 12:45 p.m.–⁠2:45 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 9:30–⁠11:30 a.m., 2–⁠4 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 10 a.m.–⁠1 p.m., 2 p.m.–⁠3 p.m.
  • Fridays: 1–⁠4 p.m.

QT Closet @ The Pride Alliance Center

The QT Closet provides a selection of gender affirming clothing centered to support queer and trans folx on campus. Contact the Pride Alliance Center to inquire.
