This message is intended for those instructors and departments teaching Spring 2020 courses with a final examination scheduled by the Office of the Registrar. If you are with a professional college that does not follow the final exam schedule set by the Office of the Registrar, please disregard this message.
Clarification on End of Academic Year
The dates of the academic year remain unchanged. The last day of classes will be May 8, 2020.
Final Exam Week Plan
Final exam week remains unchanged and is May 11-15, 2020.
All final exam assignments, published to campus on February 17, 2020, will remain as originally scheduled and visible to faculty and staff on MAUI. However, we understand that with courses moving to a virtual format, a traditional final exam may no longer be the best form of assessment for some courses. In light of this, and to reduce any potential confusion, the final exam schedule has been removed from course listings and individual student schedules on MyUI. Instead, faculty should communicate their final exam or alternate assessment plans (such as take-home exams, papers, etc.) directly to their students. If you are giving a final exam, it is the expectation that you will use the time/date originally scheduled.
Student Conflicts
If applicable in new online format, we encourage instructors to retain previously scheduled times published to attempt to reduce student conflicts.
We ask that instructors please be flexible with any makeup requests. This is especially important now that online instruction needs likely vary from the original course plans across campus when exams were initially created. Communication to Students
The Office of the Registrar will notify students via email that instructors will be in contact regarding their instructors’ final exam week assessment plans. A banner will also be placed in MyUI directing students to reach out to their instructors for information on final exam date/time assignments or alternative assessments.
