Put a Bow on It

Damien Ihrig, MA, MLIS
Curator, John Martin Rare Book Room

Cropped color photo of an illuminted initial painted with reds, blues, greens, and gold, with a floral vine motif, from D'Abano's Conciliator differentiarum philosophorum et medicorum, 1476.Happy December, folks! Another year is in the books. As we move quickly towards 2024 (and the 50th anniversary of Hardin Library and the John Martin Rare Book Room!), I want to thank all of you for reading along this year. I hope the newsletter brought a diverting bit of fun with a dash of interesting info. Getting to work with the JMRBR collection is an absolute joy, but what truly makes my job so amazing is that I get to share it with all of you - the students, faculty, staff of the UI, and book lovers all over the world who make up our little JMRBR community.

'Tis the season of gift-giving, and my gift to you this month is a small sampling of some of the most iconic images from the collection. Sit back, relax, and enjoy. As always, do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about anything in this or past issues or if you'd like to see any of our items in person.

Be good to one another, stay well, and happy reading. See you next year!
