NSF calls for Growing Convergence Research (GCR) proposals to solve vexing research problems.
This program will support transitioning teams from research that is multidisciplinary to research that transcends disciplinary boundaries with novel conceptual frameworks, theories, and methods. Convergence research is a means for solving puzzling research problems, in particular, complex problems focusing on societal needs or deep scientific challenges. It entails integrating knowledge, methods, and expertise from different disciplines and developing novel paradigms that catalyze scientific discovery and innovation. GCR identifies Convergence Research as having two primary characteristics: 1.) Research driven by a specific and compelling problem. Convergence research is generally inspired by the need to address a specific challenge or opportunity, whether it arises from deep scientific questions or pressing societal needs. 2.)Deep integration across disciplines. As experts from different disciplines pursue common research challenges, their knowledge, theories, methods, data, research communities and languages become increasingly intermingled or integrated. New frameworks, paradigms or even disciplines can form sustained interactions across multiple communities.

The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) releases the Foundation’s Research Grants Program.
PCRF works directly with doctors, researchers, and nurses to identify the specific challenges they face in bringing new treatments to and caring for children with cancer. They aim to speed up the process of bringing the latest and most promising life-saving treatments to seriously ill children. A Letter of Intent is required in order to be invited to submit a grant application, LOI are due March 1. The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation awards four types of grants: 1.) Emerging Investigator, 2.) Translational Research Grants, 3.) Basic Science Grants, 4.) Designated Grant Programs.
Details | | | Limited Submission Opportunities | | Description: The DOE SC program in Basic Energy Sciences (BES) announces a re-competition of the Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) program and encourages both new and renewal applications. The focus of the EFRC program is on fundamental scientific research, therefore applications to this FOA must not propose applied research and technology development activities. BES is soliciting new applications for basic science in two topical areas: 1) Co-design of materials and processes to revolutionize microelectronics and/or QIS fabrication, and 2) Environmental management.

Sponsor Deadline: Wednesday, February 28, 2024 | Description: Recent reports point to emerging trends and advances in high-end computing, massive datasets, visualization, and artificial intelligence on increasingly heterogeneous architectures. Significant innovation will be required in the development of effective paradigms and approaches for realizing the full potential of scientific computing from emerging technologies. It is expected that the proposed projects will significantly benefit from the exploration of innovative ideas or from the development of unconventional approaches.

Projects may be small, medium, or large, and may take place in any part of the nation’s 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. jurisdictions.
