NIH releases HEAL Initiative: Non-addictive Analgesic Therapeutics Development [Small Molecules and Biologics] to Treat Pain (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Optional).

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support preclinical optimization and development of safe, effective, and non-addictive small molecule and biologic therapeutics to treat pain. The goal of the program is to accelerate the optimization and development of promising early therapeutic molecules and to facilitate readiness for the Early Phase Pain Investigation Clinical Network (EPPIC-Net) or other Phase II clinical studies.

American Brain Tumor Association request applications to advance the understanding and treatment of brain tumors.

Several award mechanisms exist, all LOI are required and due December 13, 2023.

  • Discovery Grants are one-year, $50,000 grants for high risk, high impact research with the potential to change current diagnostic or treatment models.
  • Basic Research Fellowships are two-year, $100,000 mentored grants supporting postdoctoral fellows who are conducting laboratory or field-based research projects that focus on brain tumors.
  • Research Collaboration Grants are two-year, $200,000 grants for multi-investigator and multi-institutional brain tumor collaborative research projects. They are intended to promote team science, streamlining and accelerating research progress.

Mellon Foundation: Higher Learning

Description: Through its Higher Learning grantmaking area, Mellon invites humanities-grounded ideas for research and curricular projects focused on any of three topics: 1) Cultures of US Democracy, 2) Environmental Justice Studies, or 3) Social Justice and Disciplinary Knowledge.

NIH: Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) (T32)

Description: The goal of the Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) program is to strengthen research training environments and promote broader participation in the biomedical research workforce by expanding the pool of well-trained scientists earning a Ph.D., for example, encouraging the inclusion of individuals from underrepresented groups (see Notice of NIH’s Interest in Diversity).

CDC: Epidemiologic Cohort Study of Interstitial Cystitis

Description: The primary purpose of this funding opportunity is to follow a well-defined cohort of participants with interstitial cystitis (IC) in order to obtain incidence estimates of IC, define the demographic and clinical patterns of IC, and document its longitudinal impact on the health of affected people over time. This funding opportunity should be used to help strengthen clinical, community, and public health linkages; and target groups disproportionately impacted by IC.

NIH: Diagnostic Centers of Excellence (X01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Description: The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to provide investigators with access to resources provided by the Data Management Coordinating Center for Diagnostic Centers of Excellence (RFA-NS-22-051), as part of the next phase of the Undiagnosed Diseases Network. Resources include infrastructure, data management, and clinical research support for a new Network of clinical sites that provide diagnostic services for patients with undiagnosed diseases.
