Honors and Service Learning Classes

If you are looking to take a service learning class this spring, General Education Literature is offering two sections of ENGL:1200. Both sections will give students the chance to connect to the community through a partnership with Kirkwood Elementary (note: this means a background check will be required). Due to the transportation schedule, students must not be registered in another class immediately following Friday’s class in order to participate in the Service Learning portion. The first section (ENGL:1200:0018) will be equally invested in both how a text is produced, and how it lives in community with its readers, considering interpretations of texts as well as how these interpretations grow and change as we ourselves grow and change. The second section (ENGL:1200:0019) will explore community as a literary theme and an approach to reading, writing, and discussing literature, as well as a foundation of participating in Service Learning. The class will center students’ unique perspectives as reader and how they relate to their own experiences and expectations, and each text’s historical, cultural, and literary contexts.

Honors Program Art Gallery

The Honors Program is looking for artists to submit their work for 4th floor display. We would like to feature your work for the spring semester, after which you can donate or collect it in May. Paint or print (or other), we want to see what you have created! Please fill out this form or email veronica-sanchez@uiowa.edu if you have any questions.

Apply to be an Honors Admin!

Do you want to be an integral part of the Honors Program? We are looking to hire 1-2 Student Admin Coordinators! This position starts at $10/hour, and the hours are flexible (ranging 8am-9pm M-Th & 8am-5pm F). You would provide administrative support for the Honors Program; manage reception desk activity on the 4th floor of the Blank Honors Center to serve as the first point of contact to anyone who calls, emails, or walks in; develop a focus area utilizing your skills and interests to serve a need for the program such as outreach, assessment, development, process improvement, or creative engagement. Please fill out the application form to be considered!
