Last Monday was International Women's Day! We want to give a shout out to all the incredible women from our Honors community. Don't forget to check out the Night of 1000 Dinners, Iowa City's virtual celebration of women's day which will be happening tonight from 6 PM - 7 PM!
It's Hobbies Week here at the Honors Program. This is a time full of midterms and assignments, so we hope you can relax with our fun virtual events throughout the week! Check out the program calendar for all the events and keep an eye out on our instagram for updates.

Virtual Study Abroad: Shakespeare’s England
Spend your summer (May 24, 2021 - June 18, 2021) exploring Shakespeare's England virtually through performances, readings, and live-streamed interviews and presentations with actors, directors, and scholars in London and Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford-Upon-Avon. Apply for the Portz Interdisciplinary Fellowship Program
The Portz Fellowship program invites applications from individuals or teams of two students who wish to undertake cross disciplinary research. Selected proposals will be funded for a period of up to 18 months. Honors students in good standing may apply at any point in their undergraduate studies. Only one proposal per year from each member institution is permitted. Check out the website for more information.

Apply for the Hawkeye Internship Grant!
A quick friendly reminder about the Hawkeye Internship Grant! If you want to defray the costs of completing an internship this upcoming summer, don’t forget to apply; the deadline is approaching on April 14. Your internship should be at a nonprofit or government institute and should be unpaid or paid below minimum wage. Questions? Virtual Study Abroad: Women’s Empowerment in the Dominican Republic
Join UI Professor Mo Haskins and Study Abroad Advisor Cory Petersen to learn about a virtual study abroad program, Women's Empowerment in the Dominican Republic, that will discuss course content, scholarships, funding, and the application process. Apply to be a Writing Fellow
Do you enjoy writing in your classes? Do you enjoy editing the writing of your peers? If so, think about becoming an Honors Writing Fellow! Fellows are assigned to courses across disciplines where they help students with drafts of major assignments. Applications for Fall 2021 can be found on our website and will be due on March 26.

Hobbies Theme Week!
We hope you have been enjoying the Hobbies Theme Week so far! Keep an eye out for the rest of the events this week - we have a game night at 7 pm today, an improv night tomorrow and our classic Book-ish club on Friday! Events will be held over Zoom. Writing at Iowa Roadshow
Come talk with peer mentors Caroline and Mishma about their literary experiences at Iowa, which include but are not limited to – joining campus lit magazines, working as a Writing Fellow, editing the Honors Publication, doing creative paid research etc. – and learn how they can count towards Honors Experiential Learning credits! The roadshow will be on March 17, 2.30 PM – 3.30 PM via Zoom.

Join us for a Book-ish Club Meeting!
The March meeting of the Book-ish club will be on March 12 from 5 PM to 6 PM. To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are reading Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story The Yellow Wallpaper, which is considered a classic of the American feminist literature canon. You can find a free copy here. We will be meeting via Zoom; we look forward to seeing you there!

COVID Care for Marginalized and Vulnerable Populations
An expert panel of physicians, researchers, and advocates for Iowa’s most vulnerable populations will address public health and the pandemic, the needs of marginalized and vulnerable populations, and the challenge of vaccine hesitancy on the next WorldCanvass. The program, produced by UI International Programs, begins at 5:30 PM on March 16. You can register here.
