Hi Hawkeyes!

We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Honorable Messenger featuring opportunities with the Goldwater Scholarship Program and the Iowa Youth Writing Project, along with events with the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council and College of Public Health!

Goldwater Scholarship Program

The Goldwater Scholarship Program, one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics in the United States, seeks to identify and support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming this Nation’s next generation of research leaders in these fields. Interested students must complete the campus nomination process and be selected to represent the University of Iowa as an institutional nominee. Join an information session (our Info Session List is updated weekly) or schedule a conversation with the Office of Scholar Development to find out more about this undergraduate research fellowship.

Iowa Youth Writing Project Site Coordinator

Would you like to take a leadership role in a youth-centered outreach organization? Become a Site Coordinator with the IYWP! Iowa Youth Writing Project Site Coordinators serve as volunteer leaders, working in the field with K-12 youth and supervising a team of enthusiastic UI volunteers. Design innovative lesson plans and activities, help your volunteers feel comfortable in the classroom, and serve as a liaison between your volunteers and IYWP staff! No prior experience with the IYWP is necessary, but some experience with youth is preferred. Interested? Please email iywp@uiowa.edu with the subject line “Site Coordinator,” and they will invite you to a Site Coordinator training session.

The Iowa City Foreign Relations Council will host an event in partnership with the Iowa Public Policy Center on Wednesday, September 28th at 7 p.m. in the Old Capitol Senate Chamber. Her talk will examine the dynamics of systemic corruption and its role fueling almost every crisis facing the world, from violent insurgency to the war in Ukraine to mass migrations and environmental destruction. This event is free, open to the public, and will be available via livestream. Click HERE to register!

Global Food Drive for Food Pantry at Iowa
