Volunteer for Fall 2024 Commencement!

We are currently looking for enthusiastic members of the university community to assist with the fall 2024 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and University College commencement ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024. Volunteering at this event is a great way to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating students. 

To sign up, please complete and submit the form by Friday, Nov. 15, 2024. You should receive a confirmation message with your task information the first week of December.

CLAS Ceremony Information

Sunday, Dec. 22, 1 p.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena
This ceremony recognizes students from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and University College. Volunteer time commitment: 11:40 a.m.–1:20 p.m.

Please note, the time commitment for marshals is from 11:40 a.m. until the end of the ceremony.

Task Descriptions

Below is a brief overview of the available tasks.

Concourse (Graduate/Guest Entry) Level 

Wayfinder
Volunteers stationed near venue entrances have venue maps and assist graduates and guests with finding their way to seating areas. 

Floor (Graduate Seating) Level 

Card Hand-Out
Volunteers at the card hand-out areas help graduates find their name cards, or, in some cases, have graduates fill out a name card.

Honors and Distinction
Volunteers stationed on the floor assist students who have questions about graduating with honors and distinction.

Marshal
Volunteers stationed on the floor who help guide students during the ceremony by releasing rows for the presentation of graduates.  

Usher
Volunteers stationed at each card hand-out area direct graduates to take a seat in their suggested seating block after they have picked up their name card.

Training

Training sessions will be held via Zoom the week of commencement. More information will be provided closer to the meeting dates. Additional brief training will be available on-site prior to the ceremony.
