Good afternoon! Quick reminder for all we have planned this weekend and hope you will join us!

At 5:00 PM there will be remarks by Neda Barrett, Julie Ralston Aoki and JGRJ student leaders, and Dean Washburn. At the conclusion of the remarks and awards, we would love for you to continue your socialization and will ask for you to go to the first floor where there are wonderful areas to do so. - 2:00-3:00 PM - Attorney Wellness: Achieving Well-Being in Challenging Times - Kate Moreland presenting - 1997 JD
- Acknowledging the importance of well-being in the workplace is more important than ever. The reality of burnout, the great resignation, and quiet quitting are directly related to well-being and whether people are languishing or flourishing. Leaders must be a champion for well-being within their organization to help support a positive culture for a thriving workforce as we navigate our new world. It requires listening, vulnerability, courage, and empathy on the part of leaders. Lawyers are especially at risk of compassion fatigue and secondary trauma, so they must model the way and ensure they are addressing their own well-being. Whether it is remote or hybrid work, reintegration or dealing with the collective trauma of the past two years, people need new skills and support to thrive. In this session, participants will learn mindfulness tools to address burnout, compassion fatigue and anxiety.
- 3:00-4:00 PM D.C. insider Called into the Spotlight - Tom Wickham presenting - 1994 JD
- Tom Wickham (BA 90, JD 94), former Parliamentarian of the U.S. House of Representatives, had announced his retirement after a 25-year career in 2020 but agreed to one last assignment - the electoral count of January 6, 2021. Join Tom as he reflects on his career advising our nation’s top lawmakers from Gingrich to Pelosi and his experiences on January 6, 2021 including a stint on the witness stand in a high-profile criminal trial. As Congress’s former “umpire”, Tom will discuss the ethical and professional challenges that come with being a nonpartisan official in these increasingly polarized times.
