Meet Emily Kleinmeyer! She works in Human Resources and as an adjunct instructor at the University of Iowa. Learn more about her career path and what advice she has for college students!
Q: What is your current position? Her Answer: Aside from being an adjunct instructor, my full-time position is in a Human Resources Business Partner Role at IDT here in Coralville.
Q: For students wanting to go into the HR field, what are some important things to know? Her Answer: Make the most of where you are and the position you are in. Work with your manager to develop your career and seek opportunities for growth and development. In HR, you can lead from any position, not just one with a leadership title.
Q: What advice would you give students in college right now? Her Answer: I would advise students to set their sights broadly and not limit themselves to a narrow field. It’s important to have job shadow conversations to gain insights into different roles and industries. Taking advantage of career center resources is crucial, as they offer valuable support and guidance. Remember, you might have to start elsewhere before you end up where you want to be, so stay open to various opportunities.
Q: What can students do in college to improve their skills for the workforce? Her Answer: To grow as a leader, I suggest taking advantage of career center advice and being actively involved in campus organizations and activities. It’s essential to learn how to interact with people who are like you and those who are different. Be curious, open to learning, and always ask questions. These experiences will help you develop essential leadership skills. | | | Mark Your Calendars! | As the spring semester wraps up, it's time to start planning for the fall!
