This session is being conducted specifically for the Office of the Registrar team. If you have already completed the Brand 101 training, you are encouraged to attend this session to share some of the ways you have implemented what you learned.

The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Division of Student Life, and Department of Communication Studies are teaming up again for another Day of Dialogue on Oct. 26. While they have not yet set the topic, they are expecting a larger than normal student turnout, so they are trying to recruit 30+ people to serve as small table discussion facilitators at the event.
You do not need extensive training in facilitation to help! If you are interested in volunteering or have additional questions, please contact teri-schnelle@uiowa.edu, tabitha-wiggins@uiowa.edu, or david-supp-montgomerie@uiowa.edu.
This Day of Dialogue will be a facilitated student discussion about a “wicked problem” (public issue with value-based tensions and disagreements). Students will practice the art of dialogue in small group rounds of discussion. Rather than engage the issue in an adversarial frame, they will be encouraged to think of it in a deliberative frame with different options that each have some tradeoffs. Each table of 4–6 students will have a facilitator that helps to encourage their discussion (keeping it civil, on track, and probing them to go deeper and reflect on any common ground). Discussion materials and suggested follow-up questions will be provided. | | | | |
