The next Book Matters event is a reading and discussion, co-hosted by Prairie Lights, to celebrate Christopher Goetz’s recent book, The Counterfeit Coin: Videogames and Fantasies of Empowerment. Goetz is an associate professor and head of film studies in the Department of Cinematic Arts. After the reading, Corey Creekmur, associate professor of cinematic arts, will join Goetz for a conversation and Q&A with the audience.

This in-person training opportunity was requested by a member of our staff and is being hosted specifically for the Office of the Registrar.
This Campus Safety course is designed to help prepare employees for how to handle emergency situations. It covers techniques for de-escalating disruptive persons in the workplace until help arrives.

These committees were created in an effort to ensure that university-wide services and activities are carried out in the best interest of the UI community.
The University Committees’ general responsibilities are twofold:

Be prepared and confident to support students in distress with this Master Class, led by Barry Schreier, Ph.D.
Plan to attend all four sections. Sessions will be held in Jones Commons (UI College of Education). | | | Registration Open for BUILD Summer Cohorts Wednesdays, May 26–June 26 | 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
BUILD Summer Cohorts are now open for UI faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students! This six-week series will engage participants in the guided completion of their BUILD certificate. Participants will engage with 13 hours of training, including active discussions with fellow cohort members and a certified cultural intelligence coach.
The first three weeks will be in person and the last three weeks will be virtual.
