American Epilepsy Society (AES) and Epilepsy Wellness Advocates (EWA) are sponsoring an early career research award for pilot studies.

AES/EWA is offering a one-year grant of up to $70,000 to support early-career investigators in conducting research focused on integrative health and wellness strategies for managing epilepsy and enhancing patient quality of life. The areas of interest include nutrition, cognition, behavior, emotion, activity, environmental, and integrative health innovation. Proposals are due January 22, 2026.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) announces the TRAILBLAZER opportunity for engineers and scientists pursuing bold and innovative projects.

The NSF Trailblazer Engineering Impact Award (TRAILBLAZER) program supports individual investigators undertaking novel research projects with the potential to:

  • Innovatively address new areas of fundamental or applied research
  • Catalyze the development of new industries or capabilities that strengthen the nation’s leadership position
  • Make significant progress toward solving national needs or grand challenges

Priority areas include (but are not limited to) artificial intelligence (AI), bioengineering, quantum engineering, robotics, and nuclear engineering. TRAILBLAZER seeks engineers and scientists with a proven track record of innovation and creativity, encouraging them to explore new research directions distinct from their current or previous work. The NSF will host a webinar on January 13 and letters of intent are due January 20, 2026.

New Limited Submission Opportunities

NIH: NIA Expanding Research in AD/ADRD (ERA) Summer Research Education Program (R25 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Description: The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The overarching goal of this National Institute on Aging (NIA) R25 program is to support educational activities that compliment and/or enhance training opportunities to ensure a workforce that is well prepared to meet the nation’s biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs, help recruit individuals with specific specialty or disciplinary backgrounds to research careers in biomedical, behavioral and clinical sciences and foster a better understanding of biomedical, behavioral and clinical research and its implications. 
Limitation: two applications per institution
