Update on FLSA Overtime Rule and Commencement Volunteer Hours Flexibility

Hello!

We are reaching out to provide an update following the recent strike down of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime rule.

As a result of this change, the salary threshold from the 2019 regulations ($35,568 per year or $683 per week) will remain in effect, and employers should continue to adhere to this level.

In light of this, the Office of the Registrar is offering support for the volunteer hours of team members during commencement. As a commencement volunteer, you will have the flexibility to adjust your work hours based on the time you volunteer. Assignments will be shared with volunteers after fall break.

For example, if you volunteer for three hours, you may adjust your schedule by flexing those three hours during your regular work hours.

Please coordinate with your supervisor to arrange a time to flex your hours within two weeks* of your volunteer shift. Additionally, ensure that your calendar is updated to reflect when you will be out of the office.

Thank you!
Registrar Leadership Team

*While two weeks is considered best practice, please work with your supervisor to determine if adjustments can be made based on workload and availability.
