Welcome back! | We are excited to have students back on campus and look forward to working with everyone to promote undergraduate involvement in research and creative projects at the University of Iowa.
OUR Director Promotion
Exciting News - Tawny Tibbits, has been appointed as the new Office of Undergraduate Research's (OUR) Director! Tawny previously served as the associate director in the OUR and helped develop a network of campus partners to co-fund and increase the impact of undergraduate research fellowships. She is replacing the founding director, Bob Kirby, who has served in the role since the office’s inception in 2006.

Tawny is shown standing on the left alongside the recipients of the Excellence in Undergraduate Research Awards and Dr. Marty Scholtz, Vice President for Research. | | | We have new OUR Ambassadors!
The Research Ambassadors are a group of UI undergraduates who are involved in research and creative work on campus. They assist with campus recruiting and outreach, event planning, and other ways to promote undergraduate involvement. Contact them if you have any questions about getting involved in research. They know first-hand what it takes to be a successful undergraduate researcher at the University of Iowa. | | With the start of the new school year, OUR welcomes three new office assistants, Megan, Arsh, and Aidan. They'll work alongside two returning staff members, Stephanie and Sydney, who are stepping into their new roles as Lead Office Assistants! Together this team is excited and committed to ensure everything runs smoothly and help OUR reach new heights.
| | | Involved in research? Meet with your research mentor and register your research for the Fall 2024 semester.
OUR offers research courses each semester, available for registration through MyUI. Registering your research will provide a transcript verification of research participation and won't affect a student's GPA. | | Looking to get involved in research? There are numerous opportunities available for different types of research. Research is open to everyone. It doesn't matter if you're in business, music, science, or any other field, if you're exploring and creating something unique, you can register it as research!
Not sure how to start reaching out? Click here! | | | The 2024 Fall Undergraduate Research Festival is coming! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 and get registered!
ANY undergraduate student who is involved in research or creative work can register and present their research using a visual aid, usually a research poster, though other mediums are acceptable. Participants stand with their visual aids for one session, giving brief explanations of their work and answering questions from passing faculty, staff, students, and community members. Students may be evaluated or receive feedback on their posters, depending on their preference. | | The 2024 Undergraduate Research Conference will be held on Saturday, October 5th, 2024!
The Undergraduate Research Conference was created by students for students to give UI's undergraduates a low-risk space to learn all about undergraduate research. Students gather for a 3-hour conference (with food!) to hear from a speaker, learn about what undergraduate research is, and find out how to get involved. This year's conference will be geared toward first and second year students (though all years are welcome!) who are interested in research involvement. | | | OUR offers multiple different ways to find funding for your research!
