2023 UI Research Services Fair

The Research Services Fair (RSF) is a vendor-style fair that provides an opportunity for researchers and staff to learn about campus resources and services available for their research and scholarship activities.  This year’s RSF will be hosted at the IMU Main Lounge on Thursday, October 12 from 1pm-4:30pm and will host 65 campus units. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be available throughout the event.

Connect Your Researchers to Funding Opportunities (Pivot Administrative Features)

Are you looking for ways to assist researchers with identifying grant funding opportunities? Are you wanting to learn more about the enhanced administrative features of Pivot? Join us for an information and demonstration session that will introduce Pivot Administrative Features. Topics covered will include crafting and saving funding opportunity searches, creating calendars and newsletters, sharing and tracking opportunities, editing profiles, and enabling weekly email alerts. We will also discuss how to request access to the additional administrative privileges.

Early Career Funding Opportunities and Support Information Session

Join us on Friday, September 8 from 9am-9:45am for a session that will give an overview of various federal and foundation opportunities available to early career faculty.  We will also highlight the unique support provided to early career faculty by the RDO.

Arts & Humanities Initiative (AHI) Information Session

Join us virtually on Tuesday, September 12 from 12:30pm-1:30pm to learn about the Arts & Humanities Initiative (AHI) program, hear from past reviewers, and have your questions answered.  The AHI program is an internal funding program within the Office of the Vice President for Research that encourages leading edge scholarship, creative activities, and interdisciplinary research.  Next application deadline: Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

"How to Win at DOE" with KB Science

This session will be an introduction to the Department of Energy programing for all career levels, which will include tips for how to write to DOE grant programs, and information about the Bi-partisan infrastructure law, the inflation reduction act, and the CHIPS R&D and Science Act. This training will be given by Dr. Kristin Bennett from KB Science. Dr. Bennet has served in the DOE federal market space for over 30 years as a scientist, laboratory manager and federal director. Save the date for the session on Tuesday, Sept 19 from 9am-11am in room UCC 1117.

Planning and Writing Successful Proposals in the Arts and Humanities

Join us on Friday, September 29 and Friday, October 6 from 9am-11am to learn fundamental concepts of proposal planning and writing for the Arts and Humanities faculty backed by concrete tips and operational strategies that support planning and longer-term sustainability.  Presented by AtKisson Training Group.

Write Winning Grant Proposals Seminar

The Research Development Office in the Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to partner with Dr. John Robertson from Grant Writer's Seminars & Workshops (GWSW) to conduct the Write Winning Grant Proposals seminar that will be held on Thursday, October 26 at 8:30am in the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) Second Floor Ballroom. 

Registration fee is $150 (includes seminar, workbook, supplemental materials, and lunch). Each college sponsors a certain number of faculty spots on a first come, first served basis.

NSF Issues New Training Requirements

Starting later this year, faculty and senior personnel on new awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) will be required to complete training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research. Award notices from the NSF will arrive with a new training requirement for proposals submitted after July 31, 2023. Faculty and senior personnel will have 30 days to complete the training after receiving the notification of funding from the NSF. Completion of training is not required at the time of proposal submission. The NSF requirements for training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research previously applied only to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.

New DSP Routing Form Effective July 29

On July 29, the Division of Sponsored Programs (DSP) rolled out a new Routing Form in UIRIS. The system has significant changes that will improve functionality and integration. A video previewing the new proposal routing form is available here under Training Documents and Helpful Links.

DSP will host online open hours to answer your questions and to address concerns.
