Seeding Excellence: OVPR Community Engaged Scholars

Applications are sought for collaborative, 18-month OVPR Community Engaged Scholars proposals with awards up to $50k (smaller projects are encouraged) to support creating and solidifying community research and scholarship partnerships within Iowa. The goal is to support community engaged research and scholarship partnerships that reciprocally benefit the University and Iowa communities.

LOIs are due February 3, 2023. Full proposals due April 14 and by invitation only.  See the RFP and how to apply here.

Broader Impacts/Research Impacts Seminars

The National Science Foundation considers two criteria in their review of proposals: intellectual merit and broader impacts (BI). Broader impacts relate to how the proposed research will “benefit society or advance desired societal outcomes” and is increasingly used as the differentiator between which excellent proposals to fund or not.  

The Training Team from the NSF-supported Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) organization will conduct five interactive virtual workshops on Friday, February 3, 17 and Friday, March 3, 17, and 31 from 9am-11am.

Arts & Humanities Initiative Application Information Session

Join us virtually on Friday, February 10 from 10am-11am to learn about the Arts & Humanities Initiative (AHI) program, hear from past reviewers, and have your questions answered.  The AHI program is an internal funding program within the Office of the Vice President for Research that encourages leading edge scholarship, creative activities, and interdisciplinary research.  Next application deadline: Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

Rural Telehealth Research Center (RTRC) Telehealth Speed Networking Event

Are you interested in advancing the evidence of telehealth?  Are you looking for collaborators to explore new dimensions of telehealth research?  If so, the RTRC Telehealth Speed Networking event is the answer for you!  Speed Networking is designed to help you quickly meet new collaborators and brainstorm novel ideas leading to potential new avenues for your research and funding portfolio. Faculty from all disciplines interested in telehealth, broadly defined, are welcome to register.

Connect Your Researchers to Funding Opportunities (Pivot Administrative Features)

Are you looking for ways to assist researchers with identifying grant funding opportunities? Are you wanting to learn more about the enhanced administrative features of Pivot? Join us for an information and demonstration session that will introduce Pivot Administrative Features. Topics covered will include crafting and saving funding opportunity searches, creating calendars and newsletters, sharing and tracking opportunities, editing profiles, and enabling weekly email alerts. We will also discuss how to request access to the additional administrative privileges.

Prevention Research Center for Rural Health (PRC-RH) Pilot Program

Purpose: To encourage the development of new research projects that advance one or more of the main thematic foci of the PRC-RH listed below.

  1. Addressing health disparities through health promotion and disease prevention strategies
  2. Advancing understanding of the relationships between social and structural determinants and health outcomes in rural and/or micropolitan areas
  3. Developing and testing interventions for, or Adaptation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to rural and/or micropolitan populations

Eligibility: U. Iowa faculty member, research scientist, or post-doctoral trainee with appropriate expertise

Award Size: $20,000 (direct) which must be completed within a year

Due: February 28, 2023
