Improving Scholarly Communication Series

The Improving Scholarly Communications sessions are a three-part series designed to provide you strategies to improve the clarity of your scholarly communications, both written and oral. These workshops are hosted by Paul Casella and will take place throughout July of 2023. All sessions will be hosted in room 2520D of the University Capitol Centre.

  • Writing for Publication - Wednesday, July 12 from 11am-12pm
  • Writing Effective NIH Grant Applications - Wednesday, July 19 from 11am-12pm
  • Speaking for Success: Strategies for Effective Medical and Scientific Presentations - Wednesday, July 26 from 11am-12pm.

Write Winning Grant Proposals Seminar - Registration Open

The Research Development Office in the Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to partner with Dr. John Robertson from Grant Writer's Seminars & Workshops (GWSW) to conduct the Write Winning Grant Proposals seminar that will be held on Thursday, October 26 at 8:30am in the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) Second Floor Ballroom. 

Registration fee is $150 (includes seminar, workbook, supplemental materials, and lunch). Each college sponsors a certain number of faculty spots on a first come, first served basis.

In Case You Missed It - NSF MRI Information Session

On June 22, 2023 the RDO hosted a Zoom information session focused on NSF’s Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program. During the session, the RDO gave an overview of the program solicitation, highlighted major changes and recent restrictions on subawardees, and heard insights from a previous MRI awardee. Please note there are major changes to this long-running NSF program.

Non-RDO News

NSF Issues New Training Requirements

Starting later this year, faculty and senior personnel on new awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) will be required to complete training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research. Award notices from the NSF will arrive with a new training requirement for proposals submitted after July 31, 2023. Faculty and senior personnel will have 30 days to complete the training after receiving the notification of funding from the NSF. Completion of training is not required at the time of proposal submission.

The NSF requirements for training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research previously applied only to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.

Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest issues a request for Pilot Proposals

The Healthier Workforce Center encourages the development of new and creative research and research-oriented health promotion, health protection and translation projects with promise to lead to more comprehensive studies addressing Total Worker Health® approaches.

The pilot grant program supports new faculty and student research projects and engages community members in implementing and evaluating evidence-based research into practice.
