Seeding Excellence: OVPR Interdisciplinary Scholars

Applications are sought for collaborative, one-year OVPR Interdisciplinary Scholars proposals with awards up to $100k/year to support teams coalescing around the climate and health nexus. For Fall 2022, it is anticipated that up to 10 full proposals will be invited with up to five awards made.

Seeding Excellence: OVPR Early Career Scholars

Applications are sought for single investigator, one-year OVPR Early Career Scholars proposals with awards up to $30k. Successful applications will also receive individual grantsmanship consulting and support to visit program officers. The goal is to help tenure-track assistant professors develop a competitive proposal and secure an externally funded award. In FY23, it is anticipated that there will be 13 OVPR Early Career Scholars awards funded through SEI.

Seeding Excellence: OVPR Community Engaged Scholars (Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences [AHSS])

In collaboration with the Obermann Center, applications are sought for collaborative, one-year OVPR Community Engaged Scholars (AHSS) proposals with awards up to $5,000 to support publicly engaged, research-based project in the arts, humanities, and social sciences that mutually benefit university research and scholarship and the involved community. The goal is for university/community teams to find productive approaches to solving problems the faculty and partner both deem significant. In FY23, it is anticipated that there will be up to eight OVPR Community Engaged Scholars (AHSS) awards funded through SEI.

Planning and Writing Successful Proposals in the Arts and Humanities

Join us on Friday, September 30 from 9am-1pm to learn fundamental concepts of proposal planning and writing for the Arts and Humanities faculty backed by concrete tips and operational strategies that support planning and longer-term sustainability.  Presented by AtKisson Training Group.

2022 UI Research Services Fair

The Research Services Fair (RSF) is a vendor-style fair that provides an opportunity for researchers and staff to learn about campus resources and services available for their research and scholarship activities.  This year’s RSF will be hosted at Hancher Auditorium on Thursday, October 20 from 1pm-4:30pm and will host over 50 campus units.

Write Winning Grant Proposals Seminar and Workshop

The RDO is pleased to announce that Dr. John Robertson from Grant Writer's Seminars & Workshops (GWSW) will conduct the Write Winning Grant Proposals seminar on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 8:30am-4:30pm at the IMU Second Floor Ballroom.

The Phase I seminar is a pre-requisite to the Phase II workshop scheduled for Thursday, January 12 and Friday, January 13, 2023. Faculty must contact their collegiate associate dean for research no later than Monday, August 29 with their interest in attending the Phase II workshop.

Registration Fee is $150 (includes seminar, workbook, supplemental materials, and lunch for in person participants). A limited number of college specific sponsored registrations complimentary to faculty are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Seeding Excellence AHSS Grant Workshop

On Friday, September 16 from 1:00–3:00 at the Obermann Center (111 Church St.), the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies and the Office of Engagement will hold a mini-design workshop for faculty members who plan to apply for a Seeding Excellence: OVPR Community Engaged Scholars AHSS grant.

NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy

The National Institutes of Health recently announced implementation guidance for its new Data Management & Sharing (DMS) Policy, which requires researchers to prospectively plan for how scientific data will be preserved and shared through submission of a Data Management and Sharing Plan. The new policy takes effect January 25, 2023. See below for resources on campus.

NIH DMS Webinar

An NIH DMS Working Group has been preparing for implementing the policy at UI and will host a webinar on August 30 from 1:15pm-2pm. Representatives from the Division of Sponsored Programs, UI Libraries, the Human Subjects Office, ITS Research Data Services, IT Security, and the Data Governance Task Force will be available to answer questions at the webinar.

Hardin Open Workshop: NIH Data Management and Sharing Plans

This virtual session will help you create a useful and well-written plan that meets the requirements and can be put into practice in your project. We’ll dig into each section of a plan, including: describing the types of data for your proposed project; standards for data and metadata; selecting a repository; addressing preservation and access requirements; and considerations for access, reuse and redistribution. Examples and UI and NIH resources will be discussed. Bring your draft plan if you have one. Presented by Brian Westra, UI Libraries.
